Dark Paladin

Wednesday

Shifting gears a little bit, we move to Aurkus, Lightsworn Druid.  On a side note, I believe "Druid" is a religion that worships trees and nature.  Anyway, our Druid friend has only 1200 atk and a solid 1800 def.  He is a Beast-Warrior and Level 3.

Anyway, Aurkus the Druid protects all your Lightsworn monsters from being targeted by card effects.  That's respectable protection for as long as you can keep this card on the Field.  It also comes with your standard mill effect, in this case, being three.

In short, there isn't any reason to not play one or two of these in your Lightsworn Deck.

General Zorpa Aurkus Lightsworn Druid

Unlike his TCG sister, Ehren, Aurkus has been less than well recepted. Usually it is accompanied with "OMG I pulled ANOTHER Arkus? Man this sucks!" In the Lightsworn deck there are very few openings for tech cards and even though he is a decent card, he will rarely help with that explosive win that Lightsworn are looking for.

He has 1200 ATK and 1800 DEF. The DEF is pretty good, and amazing for Lightsworn. A LIGHT Spellcaster type helps it out a little, but you should rather use Honest on a card that could win you the game. Aurkus is just not quite that card. His effect does however have it's merits. Lightsworn monsters cannot be targeted by effects. This stops Gyzarus, DAD and Brain Control. As these cards are the only ones that would be commonly negated, his effect has limits.

Even though it will stop Monarchs (which are making a comeback) he is not aggro enough to warrant a spot in the most recent Lightsworn builds. Plus, defense position monsters tend to get run over in recent tournaments, making them need to be able to replace themselves like Gravekeeper's Spy or get you another card like Dekoichi. He does have a standard Lightsworn mill of 3 at the end phase though. If his stats were reversed, He would see play, but as it is, he is a tech card at best.

Super Rare

Todayʼs card is Aurkus, Lightsworn Druid. This us a pretty medicore card for the Lightsworn Deck. With the active metagame that we have now, I donʼt really see a use for this card. As I stated last week, if I am using Lightsworn I want to win ASAP and have big beaters on the field.
I would not use this card. If more targetable cards are used in the future, I can possibly see side decking a few of these, but until that day, it will stay in my trade binder.

This card actually has some potential from a tech point of view.  With the increase in play of Book of Moon, Enemy Controller, Phoenix Wing Wind Blast, Brain Control and Soul Exchange this card grants Lightsworn monsters targeting protection.  The list is too long to write, but suffice it to say I like this card.  1200 ATK is weak, but 1800 DEF is nice for a level 3.

Why he's a beast warrior, I may never know... I mean, come on! He's a guy! With a book! That's more spellcastery-area

I'll move on to the one single thing he does good. He stops targeting cards. This includes D.D. Crow, Brain control, and more from touching your lightsworns. It does not, however, protect judgment dragon. He is not supported by the format even with his high defense. Gladiator beast will pick on him just like you got picked on at school for playing yu-gi-oh :/.

I'm not joking on that last line

Advanced  2.3/5 - It stops crow and brain, and will force glads to bring out lequari at 2100 to kill him since murmillo won't work.

Traditional - 1.8/5 - He's light.

Pwii

With saku and d-prison, this is justified, but its still not that good in a lightsworn deck. maybe run 2 at most.

4/5 lightsworn trad.

3/5 lightsworn adv.

1/5 other.

1200/1800

This is really the Lightsworn Monster I dislike the most. The fact that none of your Lightsworn monsters can be targeted by effects doesn't really help the deck overall. Even if you use your own effects, you can't target them. This means face-up monsters, Graveyard and Removed From Play Lightsworn Monsters can't be targetted. So you can forget about Lumina, Lightsworn Summoner and Glorious Illusion too, as now with Aurkus you can't target them. Yeah I guess it's another Lightsworn monster for the Graveyard, but why this one? 1800 DEF is pretty good, especially with all of the Gladiator Beasts around, but that's if it's on the first hit. The overall effect of this is really no good for the deck, not many cards target now, and if people are playing Smashing Ground, or other types of non-targetting removal, it doesn't help you at all. Sure you can feed it for Judgment Dragon or Gragonith, Lightsworn Dragon, but it's still not great. This card can easily be counted out in Lightsworn decks.

Traditional: 1/5, Bad, really bad.
Advanced: 1/5, Just as bad, not much use for this guy. The others are better, well maybe no Gragonith, Lightsworn Dragon.
