Pojo's Yu-Gi-Oh Card of the Day

Top 10 Cards of 2009
#7 - Blackwing Vayu-the Emblem of Honor
#ANPR-EN005

If this card is face-up on the field, you cannot use it for a Synchro Summon. If this card is in your Graveyard, you can remove from play this card plus 1 non-Tuner "Blackwing" monster in your Graveyard, and Special Summon 1 "Blackwing " Synchro Monster from your Extra Deck whose Level equal the total Levels of the removed monsters. The effect(s) of that Synchro Monster is negated.

#7--Blackwing Vayu-the Emblem of Honor

For obvious reasons, this little Ninja Bird of an Ultra Rare made one hell of a splash on the game, and a great asset for Blackwing players.
Despite being a Tuner, Vayu cannot be used for Synchro Summon, except by its own effect. How does it do that?

Vayu can remove himself from your Graveyard, with a non-Tuner Blackwing, and then you get a Synchro Summoned Blackwing whose Level is equal to the total Level of stars removed. The selected Synchro Summoned Synchro monster has it's effect(s) negated, but that's not really a problem either.

We have even more speed in the Blackwing Deck, which is arguably the fastest Deck in the Format currently, in Vayu. The combinations here are seriously grand...you can seriously end a Duel by having one, or even more copy of Vayu in the Graveyard. He's not going anywhere.

7 Blackwing-Vayu, the Emblem of Honor

We have a little diminutive Winged Beast that is level 1 and has 800 ATK is of the DARK variety and is a Tuner. The effect is that you cannot Synchro Summon with him while he is one the field, but in the graveyard you can remove Vayu and another Blackwing in order to Special Summon a Blackwing monster from your Extra Deck that is of the same level as the the number of stars you removed, but it's effects are negated.

The classic play with this is to use it with Sirocco to bring out Armed Wing, but you can also use Elphin or Armed Wing to bring out Armor Master. This led to a speedy deck that discarded Sirocco and Vayu and then used Burial From a Different Dimension to reuse and reuse the effect, swarming the field with Blackwing monsters. This was the Vayu Turbo that failed here in the states.

Nowadays, he sees play as a pair or a single of in Blackwing decks. He allows Blizzard and Gale to search for another card as well as giving the Blackwing player even more explosiveness. Even if they draw it, a quick set and activation of Icarus Attak put syou back in the game. He can also be used with Shura's effect. As Shura negates Vayu's effect, you can Synchro for a level 5 Catastor or Magical Android.

Basically, this guy is a bonus to the already overpowered Blackwing deck. You have him, you play him or trade him. That simple.

7 - Blackwing Vayu the Big Emblem

Blackwing Vayu is rather busted in our current format. To be able to grab it off off Shura is amazing, but drawing it is the complete opposite. Vayu+Sirocco makes Armed Wing, Vayu+Wing is Armor Master, and Vayu+Armor is Silverwind. The card is sweet since it gives you a free synchro as long as you have the requirements in your yard, but it sucks to draw it, and people are actually cutting down on copies in their decks to help beat the format better. This card doesn’t define the deck though, but I will be hitting the card that does later on in my reviews

Blackwing - Vayu the Emblem of Honor:

Blackwings lose Gale down to one, and then almost immediately afterward get this at three... life is good for Blackwing players. This card helped pilot a Blackwing win at a Shonen Jump, and adds even more swarm potential to the Blackwing juggernaut. There are just so many things working for this card... dark, searchable via Shura or Black Whirlwind, and tunes from the graveyard over and over again with Burial from a Different Dimension. This card and Black Whirlwind are what make Blackwings tier one...

COTD Blackwing - Vayu the Emblem of Honor

Vayu can be a very good card. A good tribute for Icarus Attack, an easy way for Shura to become Catastor, and a Whirlwind target for Blizzard to fetch. In Vayu Turbo, it's also a great target for Allure of Darkness due to Burial From a Different Dimension. And, similar to Wulf and Necro Gardna, having a Charge or Ryko mill a Vayu can luckily turn the tide of the game. I mean, who doesn't just adore luck determining who wins and loses, right? -.-;;

On the other hand, playing multiple copies of Vayu can leave you with a dead Vayu in hand without an Icarus or Grepher to use it with. It's the risk you run when playing multiple Vayu.

Josh

With a new year, there are new opinions and hopefully new ideas floating around in our TCG. As part of keeping to those new resolutions, I introduce myself….Josh, to those dedicated fans that love to check this site and those message boards!

Blackwing - Vayu the Emblem of Honor
A theme I have almost no experience battling…..awesome! Being out of play for a while I never approached a Blackwing deck, but that doesn’t mean these decks have nothing to speak of. Clearly Vayu maintains what Blackwing’s love, to swarm! Vayu’s technical advantage lies in the fact that he’s useful in the grave, thus any card that requires negative hand advantage is your win. The turbo abuse of this card through getting big syncro’s out along with other Blackwing’s prove to be very synergetic, not to mention downright cool. Overall, I can give Vayu the props to be number 7 on our list…it’s just a TRAGEDY it can’t be number six.
