Pojo's Yu-Gi-Oh Card of the Day

Naturia Pineapple
#DREV-EN082

All face-up monsters you control are treated as Plant-Type. If this card is in your Graveyard during your Standby Phase, and you control no Spell or Trap Cards, you can Special Summon this card. This effect cannot be activated if you control a face-up "Naturia Pineapple" or if there are any monsters in your Graveyard that are not Plant-Type or Beast-Type.

Dark Paladin

Tuesday

Naturia Pineapple...I'm very interested by the Naturia family as a whole, and this card has almost peaked my curiousity.  We have a Level 2, Earth attributed, Plant-type monster, with 100 attack and defense, although the last bit there is pretty irrelevant.

All face-up monsters you control are treated as Plant-type monsters.
For a Treeborn Frog type effect, if you have no Magic or Trap cards on the Field, and our mutant fruit friend (Pineapple are fruit, right) can Special Summon to the Field.

You can't activate that effect if you control a face-up Naturia Pineapple, or if you have monsters in your Graveyard that aren't Plant or Beast-type.  Our little friend here is actually an asset to Plant Decks, although I don't really see a Beast connection.  If it were a Tuner, it would be ridiculously awesome.

Otaku

Naturia Pineapple gives us a sweet, juicy Tuesday CotD.  A Level 2 Earth/Plant, it fits in perfectly well with its Naturia kin.  With a mere 100 ATK and DEF, you can tell it relies on its effects (though at least all that makes it fairly easy to search and/or summon).  The first effect is good: all face-up monsters you control are treated as Plant-Type monsters.  While Naturia Pineapple is already a Plant, that isn’t a universal trait for the Naturia monsters.  With this effect, you can use potent Plant support like Wall of Thorns without the nasty side effects.  The real meat of this fruit, however, is the next effect: if Naturia Pineapple is in your Graveyard during your Standby Phase and you control no Spells or Traps you can Special Summon it to your side of the field.  You also can’t have another Naturia Pineapple in play, and the real biggie: you can only have Plant or Beast Type monsters in your Graveyard.

So, this is nice for Naturia decks: with a Hand Destruction in your opening draw, you can pitch Pineapple during your Standby Phase, revive it, and lastly tribute it to bring out a first turn Naturia Bamboo Shoot for some serious control.  Plant and Beast decks in general can run this with a lone Treeborn Frog in an attempt at creating two floating monsters that revive during your Standby Phase: just remember to revive that single copy of Treeborn Frog first, then you still meet all the requirements to bring out Naturia Pineapple as well (and everything will count as Plants until you get rid of Pineapple).  This can lead to some interesting combos indeed.  If you want to use the card in a more general manner, you could try to find some cards that remove the non-Plant/Beast monsters from your Graveyard.  My old-school brain reminded me of a Level 4 Earth/Beast known as Bazoo the Soul-Eater: you’ll get a decent beatstick you can try to bait out Traps with and remove clashing monsters types from the Graveyard.

I am still selling my former collectables on eBay.  I’ve had a lot of hobbies over the years, so at various times I’ll have comic books, manga, action figures, and video games on the auction block.  You can take a look at what’s up for bids here.  I usually add new stuff on Wednesdays and Saturdays.  Just a reminder, Pojo is in no way responsible for any transactions and was merely kind enough to let me mention the auctions here. ;)
