Tourney Report
July 11, 2006

Hello readers!

I'm Ricky "RJ" Riles, and you may be aware that I am a writer for the Pojo.Com Main Site. Well, the big Pojo-Sama himself is urging everyone to start sending him their tourney reports because that section of the Main Site is dying! That’s a sad thing as reading the reports are really fun and interesting, and the section used to pull an average of 150 reports per month, and now it gets less than 10. =(.

In order to do my part, I decided to write a report on my recent Local Tournament, Galactic Goods. A good treat is that I run something pretty original!

Anyway, I wake up Sunday Morning. Now, its July 9th, and my birthday was on July 8th, so after receiving a few calls from my friends wishing me a Happy Birthday and such things, I leave for Galactic Goods! Upon arriving, I meet up with other team mates Ronshawn and Glenn. Our team is Team GG, and you may know us from our Thread on the forums, www.Pojo.Biz, our website TeamGG.Com, and we're going to be featured on Metagame.com very soon. Anyway, Glenn didn’t have all of the cards to run his deck today, so I hooked him up with them. There are 12 players, which means 4 rounds Swiss and a Top 4 playoff.

They call Round One and I'm paired up with Ronshawn right off the bat! Ronshawn is my team mate and a good friend, so after we went out to eat the day before in celebration of my 15thh birthday, he went back to my place and we all played some Yu-Gi-Oh! with his new deck. Its based around Mind on Air and other cards like Mind Crush and D.D. Designator. The deck works pretty well and its hard to beat without some tricks, but luckily my deck had just those tricks (Solemn Judgments and Mobius the Frost Monarch maindecked.) and I took a 2-1 victory after losing game one to swinging with reaper into a Dark World monster.

We all hang out and order Pizza. At Galactic Goods you can order a Single Topping, Large Pizza for only 6 dollars! Great deal in my opinion hahah ;). The Pizza was ordered and we started Round Two while waiting for it.

I'm paired up with Chris Nunnery. He’s been going to Galactic Goods for a very long time, and he’s a really cool guy. I'm glad he still lives here and is able to come back after the hurricane. Chris doesn’t go online or anything so his YGO knowledge is based off of IRL things, and he just goes to locals. He’s rusty so I took a 2-0 victory. Chris is a great sport.

The Pizza came! YES. I was REALLY freaking hungry! We all ate a little bit, but had to fast a bit because we plan on going out to Applebee’s after, STILL in celebration of my birthday. Jeez I'm such a lucky guy =D.

Round Three starts, and if I win this round I'm guaranteed Top 4. I'm playing against Chris Martinez, his story is just like Chris Nunnery's, no online and he doesn’t play YGO much, but the thing is...Chris Martinez is RICH. SERIOUSLY. This kid walks around with a PSP, DVD Player, and iPod Video along with rare YGO cards such as a TP4 Royal Decree. He also has imported games from Japan or something for his PSP such as this really awesome Naruto game, and he has an Xbox 360, too. Jeez lucky. Anyways, He used to be hard to beat because of how lucky he is, admittedly. I win quickly though, 2-0. He did start off with Confiscation then Graceful Charity both games =|.

So Round Four is up and Me and Glenn are both 3-0, and we are going to play each other for this last round. Ronshawn is 2-1 and has to win this to join us in Top 4 and have a chance at seeking revenge over me ftw ;DD. Me and Glenn end up screwing around and Ronshawn loses to Chris Martinez, rofl. In Top 4 I have to play Sebastian. Sebastian came from the West bank with 3 other players, really funny guys ^__^. He got Top 8 at the Louisiana regional main decking 15 monsters, 2 D.D. Survivors and 2 Tributes, in this format =[. He still runs the D.D. Survivors rofl...I don't main deck Cyber Dragons so it wasn’t THAT easy to win, but he got game one and I rolled the next two. I'll meet Glenn in the final, as he beats Chris Martinez with 23 seconds on the clock.

Me and Glenn start shuffling up, and I'm teasing Ronshawn about how he didn't make top 4 =D=D=D. I roll Glenn game one, Game two he wins easily, and Game Three I start trying for no reason and end up launching Wave Motion Cannon for 8k. ggz.

Props

Applebee’s being really funny haha, Glenn and Ronshawn had a drinking contest and finished 4 a piece, resulting the match in a Draw, and we celebrated me finishing my 1st drink ;].

Winning I guess ^^.

Seeing Glenn again, he lives in Texas now so we really only talk on the phone or Online.

Slops

Ronshawn not making top 4 :D:D:D.

Stay tuned for my SJC Arlington report, coming up next week!

~RJ
