GenCon Indianapolis:
A Sad Goodbye to a Great Deck

8.24.05

As I prepared for GenCon Indy, I decided to take my teammate f00b’s deck; a deck solely based on 3 Airknight Parshath and Royal Decrees. Many of you guys would want to take credit for this idea but f00b was one of the original creators of this type of deck before Royal Decree came out in Dark Beginnings 2.

After many hours and hours of play-testing this deck, I’ve came to a conclusion that this is one of the best decks in this format. It seemed to counter the metagame filled with Scapegoats and Thousand-Eyes Restrict. It seemed to be favorable against Warriors, and had many answers to the commonly played cards in this metagame.

But why the sad goodbye? Well a deck based on 3 Airknight Parshath will have a hard time against almost any deck playing multiple Cyber Dragons >_<. This was the last time you’ll see a deck like this prevail at a SJC and too bad it didn’t. I had a chance to Top 8 at the last round, having only 1 loss, but failed to get my last victory to Top 8 =\. F00b and I finished with 2 losses but we did our best and here’s a little tribute to this deck.

Deck Name: Airknight Dot Deck
Deck Creator: David “f00b” Simon
Deck Total: 41

Monsters (17)
1 Black Luster Soldier – Envoy of the Beginning
3 Airknight Parshath
1 Zombyra the Dark
2 Skilled Dark Magician
1 Breaker the Magical Warrior
1 Tribe-Infecting Virus
1 D.D. Warrior Lady
1 Tsukuyomi
1 Sangan
2 Magician of Faith
1 Magical Merchant
1 Morphing Jar
1 Sinister Serpent

Magics (19)
1 Pot of Greed
1 Graceful Charity
1 Delinquent Duo
1 Snatch Steal
1 Premature Burial
1 Heavy Storm
1 Mystical Space Typhoon
1 My Body as a Shield
2 Nobleman of Crossout
3 Book of Moon
3 Metamorphosis
3 Scapegoat

Traps (5)
2 Royal Decree
1 Call of the Haunted
1 Ring of Destruction
1 Mirror Force

Fusion Deck (especially for f00b):
3 of EVERYTHING ^^

My version and f00b’s version are different but basically contains a similar card base. Through more play-testing throughout the SJC, I’ve made more changes within this deck but since I’m doing a “tribute” for this deck, I’m not going to change it anymore.

The Skilled Dark Magicians are very synergetic with Royal Decree. They are also Tsukuyomi and Asura Priest proof, provide a great trade to the most commonly played tribute monster in this format (Airknight Parshath), and provide a great opening “bluff.” Zombyra the Dark is a metagame call that I believe would be best for this deck. Sure it loses to Tsukuyomi and with many Scapegoats in this format it won’t be strong for long, but if it still destroys an Airknight Parshath AND sets up my next tribute more one of my three Airknight Parshath, then its worth being played in this metagame in my humble opinion. Magical Merchant is a great fit for this deck because of its many tributes and it provides another Metamorphosis target for this deck, since it runs 3 Metamorphosis.

I’ve always loved 3 Book of Moons and always wanted to abuse this card. While Royal Decree is out, many duelists feel like they are “safe” from most attacks...until met by a Book of Moon. Also, with many Thousand-Eyes Restricts in this format, you need as many counters as possible for it. Not to mention it’s other purposes such as re-using Magician of Faith, preventing a Snatch Steal and even a Lightning Vortex, etc... It’s one of the “staples” for this current format in my humble opinion also.

I believe using Scapegoats and Metamorphosis to set up an Airknight Parshath tribute is very good in any circumstances. You are using Airknight Parshath to draw the 1 card so it does not become an even trade (2 cards for their only 1 tribute) and using cards like Royal Decree and My Body as a Shield to protect it seems too good to be true.

So that’s the deck’s build and idea behind it. Too bad f00b never got credit for his wonderful deck and hopefully I’m doing more than enough to give credit where credit is due.

You can e-mail me anytime at sheckii.teamsavage@cox.net I’ll try to reply to every e-mail possible.
