Saikyo Cardfighter R Sadly, I don’t think we have enough days in the week to cover the Maelstrom support before the big week, so we’re reviewing this, with apologies. I wouldn’t have been all that kind to it a year ago, but admittedly since then it got better, with Stride-based Blue Storm Maelstrom actually justifying its use over something like Thavas or new Blue Waves. Now, you’re looking at a free Stride-fodder and a means to allow cards like Tidal Assault swing for numbers, or anything you called with Lordly Maelstrom that can re-stand for another attack. Still hardly a game winner, but admittedly that isn’t its job. And it’s free of Soul and Counterblast which means its consequence free for the most part. 2.5/5 |
What’s up, Rogue Squad?! For our Throwback Thursday this week, we’re looking at one of the first G Units for the original archetype of Aqua Force: Blue Storm, or in particular, for Maelstrom. Since the new set, Maelstrom has, unfortunately, been away from the limelight since Thavas, Ripples and Blue Waves were overshadowing it, but that doesn’t stop it from getting more support, and that same support helps some of its older G Units, much like Disaster Maelstrom here. Since the new Maelstrom is more focused on getting Maelstrom cards gathered into the Soul, searching for another Maelstrom on attack makes it easier for it to get into the Soul next turn and repeating the process, and that’s not mentioning that if you already have one in the Soul that your front line gets +5k, which is a nice bonus. However, going back to the topic of overshadowed, Disaster Maelstrom is good and all, but Alexandros does the same thing, but easier and with a MUCH bigger boost, but we’ll talk about him later. As for Disaster Maelstrom, well, he’s no Disaster, but Blue Storm just needs a bit more support to be taken seriously. Rating: 2/5 Artwork: 3/5 Next Time: Personally, the one card that helped bring Aqua Force back on the map.
