Photon Delta Wing begins our week on Pojo and is another Special Summon monster to include in the Galaxy/Photon archetype.
Good attacking Level 4 LIGHT Machine that Special Summons another copy of itself from the Deck when Normal Summoned. The restriction to Normal Summon to activate the effect prevents you from getting all three copies out off one summon and going straight into a Link 3, and the restriction to LIGHT monsters being Special Summoned for the rest of the turn is archetype-specific and not very restrictive even if played elsewhere. The summoning in defense as well prevents swarming but at the same time will set up a Link 2 at the very least, leading into something like Galaxy Photon Dragon or Galaxy-Eyes Solflare Dragon, or even the two Rank 4 Starliege monsters.
The attack prevention while controlling another copy of Photon Delta Wing is nice in concept, but unlikely to make a difference. Late game it would be interesting in a topdecking situation to have two on the field and prevent your opponent from slamming a bigger attacker into you, however, at 1800ATK Photon Delta Wing can hold its own in topdeck situations. Its purpose is to set up your LIGHT Rank 4 plays as well as Rank 8 plays in conjunction with Galaxy Eyes Photon Dragon. In other decks, Photon Delta Wing would be a good Rank 4 or Link 2 option that doesn’t need anything to get you advantage other than being Normal Summoned. In LIGHT-based decks it could be thrown in as a good attacker as well as the previously-mentioned Extra Deck plays. The only downside I see to the card is that you are left with a dead copy in your Deck after you Normal Summon your first one. Unless you cycle them back or the first copy gets negated, you’ll have an 1800 LIGHT Machine vanilla floating in the deck. Not the worst thing in Galaxy/Photon, but also not great.
Photon Delta Wing adds another way to Special Summon/swarm to the already stacked Galaxy/Photon archetype. It never feels like that archetype runs out of ways to Special Summon, and now they have an option that requires a Normal Summon to help swarm, but a good one at that.

Week 2 of random cards from Maze of Millennia and we start off with Photon support from the anime: Photon Delta Wing.
Photon Delta Wing is a Level 4 LIGHT Machine with 1800 ATK and 900 DEF. A good ATK stat on a Level 4, plus a nice combo of LIGHT/Machine is a plus. Upon Normal Summon, you get to summon another Photon Delta Wing from your hand or Deck in Defense Position, but you cannot Special Summon for the rest of the turn, except for LIGHT monsters. It’s an instant Rank 4, even if just for a single Attribute. Likely meant for you to get to Galaxy Photon Dragon to be able to search basically the whole archetype, that might be the best Rank 4 to summon with this. You are 200 ATK shy to be able to summon Galaxy-Eyes Solflare Dragon, but there are probably other solid LIGHT Link-2s this can also help make. Other effect prevents the opponent from declaring an attack while you control another Photon Delta Wing, basically keeping the lone anime effect it had while also adding on, which is fine for preventing the opponent from attacking. It’s a fine card for Galaxy Photon since you can instantly get to some of your Rank 4s for the archetype. If you had another monster with 2000 or more ATK, you could also get to Solflare Dragon while also keeping a Delta Wing for something else. Solid card for the archetype.

This week continues our Maze of Millennia coverage, with Photon Delta Wing coming up almost a year since Photon Hypernova dropped. Fittingly for a Photon monster, it’s a level 4 LIGHT Machine monster, searchable with Photon Orbital and Galaxy Photon Dragon (in terms of practical searchers, anyway). It packs a decent attack stat of 1800 with a considerably worse defense of 900, though it’s a shame that it doesn’t have 2000 attack to qualify as a tribute for Galaxy-Eyes Photon Dragon.
Delta Wing has two simple effects: first, if it’s Normal Summoned, you can Special Summon another Delta Wing from your hand or deck in Defense position, albeit locking you into Special Summoning LIGHT monsters for the rest of the turn. Though you lose out on generic endboard pieces like I:P Masquerena and S:P Little Knight, it’s nice for Galaxy to finally have a 1 card combo enabler, since you can immediately go into Galaxy Photon Dragon. Delta Wing’s other effect prevents your opponent from attacking while you control another Delta Wing (go figure!), granting the infamous Captain Lock just from its first effect. It’s a funny play, though obviously it won’t fly against most modern decks. Some debate how good Delta Wing actually is in Galaxy because it can be vulnerable to Hand Traps, but I’d recommend playing 3 anyway since you have extenders like Photon Vanisher and Photon Orbital to offset it being negated.
