During the Main Phase, if you control a “Majespecter” monster (Quick Effect): You can Special Summon this card from your hand. If this card is Normal or Special Summoned: You can target 1 “Majespecter” Spell in your GY; Set it. You can only use each of the previous effects of “Majespecter Porcupine – Yamarashi” once per turn. While this card is in your Monster Zone, your opponent cannot target it with card effects, also it cannot be destroyed by your opponent’s card effects.

We’re starting off our Majespecter week with a card I just pulled at Anime Boston: Majespecter Porcupine – Yamarashi
1500ATK/DEF extender Pendulum Monster that doesn’t contain a Pendulum Spell effect, so this little guy is strictly a monster for you unless you are desperate for a scale of 2. Special Summon if you have another Majespecter monster on the field, which shouldn’t be too hard with Majespecters being Pendulum-based. This is a Quick Effect and can happen during either Main Phase so you can chain Yamarashi on your opponent’s turn to keep a body on the board. Yamarashi in the Monster Zone protects itself from the opponent targeting it with card effects and can’t be destroyed by targeting effects, giving it some decent protection despite having the generic searcher stat line.
Resetting a Majespecter Spell from the grave will get you a reuse of a resource, three of which are Quick-Play. Sonics will double a Majespecter’s ATK but halve the battle damage you do with that monster, Storm is a 1-for-1, shuffling back an opponent’s monster while tributing your WIND Spellcaster, and Wind can get you a Majespecter from your grave or Deck to the field depending on if you tribute for the card’s effect.
If you are to tribute you will want to Pendulum Summon after to regain whatever you lose. In addition, all Majespecter Main Deck monsters will get effects off a Normal or Special Summon, so make sure you keep that Pendulum Summon for after you tribute.
Majespecter Porcupine – Yamarashi can be a 1-card way of getting to whatever Majespecter you want. Sure, you need a Majespecter on the field to Special Summon it, but once you do, it pays for itself no matter what Spell you get back. With that Special Summon as well, you’ll have what you need for your Majespecter Link Monster, and that can set up a huge Pendulum Summon.

We come back to one of the more successful Pendulum archetypes as we recieve legacy support for Majespecters, so this week will start with the new Level 4 for the archetype: Majespecter Porcupine – Yamarashi.
Yamarashi as a Pendulum Scale is a Scale 2 and has no effect. Standard low scale for Majespecters. No Pendulum Effect is a downer, but Majespecters usually make up for it with their Monster Effects.
Yamarashi as a monster is a Level 4 WIND Spellcaster Pendulum with 1500 ATK and DEF. Meh stats for a Level 4, WIND isn’t great, but Spellcaster is a nice type. During the Main Phase, if you control a Majespecter monster, you get a Quick Effect to allow you to Special Summon this card from the hand. An extender that Majespecter was lacking, which helps in an era where Pendulum archetypes usually have to make Link Monsters to make their main plays. Upon being Normal or Special Summoned, you can Set any Majespecter Spell from your graveyard back to your field. Useful for recovering your monster removal options, or as we’ll see later this week a card to help get to more of your Majespecters. Each those effects are a hard once per turn, and the final effect just protects it from targeting and destruction effects from the opponent, which has been traditional for Majespecters to have that protection. Yamarashi is a nice support piece to help Majespecters start making plays again. I do wish it could set the Traps from the grave as well, but Spells are more than enough to recover. It’s a good card to search off Bunbuku to immediately get to your Link at least. Play 3 in Majespecter, it’s a quick way to help get to your Link-2 to make your Pendulum Summons more significant.

Majespecter has a rather divisive history, but all of that is in the past with their new support wave in Phantom Nightmare, starting with Majespecter Porcupine – Yamarashi. Like most Majespecters, Yamarashi is a level 4 WIND Spellcaster Pendulum monster, with a scale of 2. WIND support is largely barren, but at least it’s very searchable, since you can access it with Majespecter Raccoon – Bunbuku, Wynn the Wind Channeler, and Majesty’s Pegasus, along with tomorrow’s card. Yamarashi’s stats aren’t the greatest, with a clean 1500 for both attack and defense, which unfortunately kind of does come into play in this deck.
There’s no need to talk about Yamarashi’s Pendulum effect because, like most of the others, there is none! Yamarashi shares the standard Majespecter towers-lite protection of being untargetable and immune to destruction by your opponent’s effects, so a more inexperienced opponent might have trouble getting rid of it (if they somehow can’t overcome a 1500 stat monster, anyway). Yamarashi’s other effects are both hard once per turn; first, you can Special Summon it from your hand as a Quick Effect during the Main Phase as long as you control a Majespecter monster. This is Bunbuku’s stronger effect, as you can summon it immediately after searching it with Bunbuku to go into your Link 2 playmaker. I’m not sure why they decided to make it a Quick Effect, but I guess it helps provide a body to tribute for your Majespecter backrow, which infamously wants to tribute your monsters. Yamarashi’s other effect is less applicable on turn 1, but still potentially useful in longer games; if it’s Normal or Special Summoned, you can set a Majespecter Spell from your Graveyard to your Field. Recycling Majespecter Cyclone is nice for longer games, and you can recycle their new Spell if you need additional search power. Still, Yamarashi’s main use is to be searched by Bunbuku and become a Link 2; I like running three copies since its extending effect is great for Bunbuku inevitably getting zinged by Ash Blossom.
