Hello Pojo Fans,

Majespecter Orthrus – Nue is the archetype Link Monsters that was referenced yesterday, and is the first Extra Deck archetype monster the Majespecters have (in addition to Friday’s CoTD).

Pretty generic stuff for this Link 2, though it does need a Majespecter monster, so it won’t be seeing itself splashed in every Pendulum Deck. Arrows are your standard corners, always good if you are trying to open up more Link Summons. When you do Link Summon Orthrus – Nue, you can retrieve up to 2 face-up Majespecter monsters in your Extra Deck, AND add up to two more with different names from the Deck to take the place of the ones you took from the Extra Deck…essentially a +4. When you Link Summon Orthrus – Nue you will be using likely two Majespecter monsters, which you can then retrieve from your Extra Deck to then move up to two different ones to your Extra Deck, locking and loading for a Pendulum Summon of potentially four different Majespecter monsters.

Raccoon summon gets Porcupine which then Special Summons itself and those two make Orthrus – Nue. Orthrus – Nue retrieves those two to then put a combo of Crow, Cat, Toad, or Unicorn face-up in the Extra Deck. You could then Pendulum Summon using Porcupine and Raccoon as scales for your summon. The only downside being that you wouldn’t be able to summon Kirin, however, there is Majesty Pegasus available to summon instead. Whatever you cycle back and move from the Deck you will be locked into Majespecter and Dracoslayer monsters for the rest of the turn from the Extra Deck.

It is good that Majespecters got a Link Monster that can get them so much off of being Link Summoned. They have an Xyz that we’ll review Friday, but until now they’ve had only other archetypes Extra Deck monsters to depend on like Dracoslayer and having to run support in their archetype to facilitate that. They still can, and now it’s more helpful with Majespecters getting some support, but the main archetype needed something and Orthrus – Nue is that monster.

With how Pendulums changed post Master Rule 4 and Konami keeping Heavymetatlfoes Electrumite locked away in the TCG, the Majespecter archetype was overdue for their own Link Monster to help the archetype out, and we finally have that with Majespecter Orthrus – Nue.

Nue is a Link-2 WIND Spellcaster with 1500 ATK and arrows pointing Bottom Left and Bottom Right. ATK is middling, WIND isn’t great, Spellcaster is really good, and the arrows are great for a Pendulum archetype. The materials are any 2 Pendulum Monsters, as long as you include at least 1 Majespecter, so you can run generic Pendulums while keeping this locked to its archetype. Upon being Link Summoned, you can add up to 2 face-up Majespecter Pendulums from your Extra Deck to your hand and then place up to 2 Majespecter Pendulums with different names from your Deck face-up into the Extra Deck, but you can only Special Summon Majespecter or Dracoslayer monsters for the rest of the turn. This likely means your main form of protection will be your backrow, but in return you get a monster that recovers your Link Material back to your hand to help set up the Pendulum Scales while also putting monsters into the Extra Deck to Pendulum Summon with said Scales. It basically does everything for the archetype to get its Pendulum Summon off to hopefully gain a ton of advantage. Sure the new rules does mean you only get 3 backrow for protection, but that should be more than enough if you use them at the right time. It is a hard once per turn, of course, but it’s a great boost for the archetype and a key piece for Majespecters if you want to go a more pure route.

Art: 4/5 I assume the snake is the second head here since Orthruses are supposed to have 2 heads.

Propelling Majespecter into the modern age is their new Link monster, Majespecter Orthus – Nue, a Link 2 WIND Spellcaster Link monster, with standard bottom left and bottom right arrows. Nue will take two Pendulum monsters as long as one of them is a Majespecter, though in practice you’ll most likely only be using Majespecter monsters anyway; the easiest way to make it by far is by searching Majespecter Porcupine – Yamarashi off of Majespecter Raccoon – Bunbuku. Nue’s attack comes at a middling 1500, the unfortunate reality of Majespecter monsters.

Nue has a single but potent hard once per turn effect that triggers if it’s Link Summoned, letting you add two face-up Majespecter monsters in your Extra Deck back to your hand then send two Majespecter Pendulum monsters face-up to your Extra Deck, locking you into Majespecter and Dracoslayer monsters for the rest of the turn. This effect does, frankly, everything; since you likely used Bunbuku and Porcupine, it instantly sets up a Pendulum Summon for the two monsters you sent to the Extra Deck, justifying the lock considering you’re about to go nuts. Popular targets include Majespecter Toad – Ogama to grab your disrupting Traps and Majesty Pegasus, the Dracoslayer, who can grab any Field Spell you wish like the forever-loathed Secret Village of the Spellcasters. The lock is quite devastating since you’ll end up with a lot of bodies you can’t really use, though at least you can summon Dinoster Power, the Mighty Dracoslayer for cheap battle protection. Unfortunately (or blissfully, depending on your perspective), Nue has a very glaring component missing: it lacks the trademark Majespecter protection. As a lynchpin combo piece, that makes it highly vulnerable to Effect Veiler and Infinite Impermanence, both cards that put a full stop to the Majespecter combo unless you open a godlike hand. It’s to be expected considering how much advantage Nue generates, though for now Majespecter has to deal with an obvious choke point in addition to still lacking their actual boss monster. Still, Nue ties together the entire deck into one neat combo package; your Extra Deck options are fairly barren anyway, so while you will play at least one, I can see playing two for follow-up considering the sheer advantage it generates.

+Loaded effect that enables combos and follow-up
+Bypasses Ash Blossom and Joyous Spring
-Extremely vulnerable to other Hand Traps due to lack of protection
-Lock prevents it from being effectively used for Link climbing
