Hello Pojo Fans,
Archfiend Eccentrick is the Throwback Thursday choice for our Pendulum Countdown, but also finds itself at the 7th spot.
Low ATK/DEF, Eccentrick is a spot-remover for the Pendulum archetype. As a Pendulum Spell, Eccentrick is going to pop itself to destroy a Spell/Trap on the field, while as a monster, Eccentrick can destroy a monster on the field. Simple 1-for-1 effect that got the job done and literally any deck in the game could use it, even if they didn’t run Pendulum Monsters. You can use it to destroy something of your opponent’s, or you could destroy something of your own and trigger graveyard effect(s). There were a lot of cards that loved being in the graveyard in 2015, but that card pool of cards has grown and given Eccentrick even more targets.
Without an archetype to belong to, Eccentrick was a utility card for a lot of archetypes back then, and even saw some play as a Side Deck option even as recent as last year. If you ran a Pendulum Deck years ago, you were running at least one of this card. Easily searched, easily utilized as a problem-solving card. Both effects were able to be used once per turn, so you could get a double pop if you cycled back Eccentrick and used it in your Pendulum Zone.
Not a lot to really have to say for Eccentrick. It is a good card because it is simple. It can be searched easily, it has standard 1-for-1 spot removal, and can be played pretty much everywhere, but shines in Pendulum Decks because it can be searched better and reused more. Still a good card, but not as widely used anymore because of Pendulum Decks falling out and there being many 1-for-1 cards existing now and archetypes having their own.

Next up we see a Pendulum Monster that doesn’t have to be exclusive to Pendulum Decks, but something any Deck can run. From Clash of Rebellions once again, we have Archfiend Eccentrick.
Archfiend Eccentrick as a Pendulum Scale is a Scale 7, so fine high Scale, with an effect to target a Spell/Trap on the field to destroy it and this card. It’s simple Spell/Trap removal on a Pendulum Scale, which does mean you got some pretty solid ways to search for this potentially. Superheavy Samurai likes this for backrow removal since they can’t really use Spells and Traps themselves. Being an Archfiend and a LIGHT Fiend does give you a bunch of searching optitons in miscellaneous strategies for accessing it as well. Hard once per turn on the Spell/Trap removal, of course, so you don’t figure out a way to loop it.
As a monster, Archfiend Eccentrick is a Level 3 LIGHT Fiend with 800 ATK and 1000 DEF. Not great stats, but LIGHT Fiends are going to be popular very soon. The lone Monster Effect just lets you tribute this card to target a monster on the field and destroy it. Basically, Exiled Force that’s easier to use over and over again since it can be Pendulum Summoned back from the Extra Deck after being tributed. It still targets and destroys, so it limits what this can out, but it’s a decent effect if you need fast monster removal. Hard once per turn as well, so it isn’t completely outclassing Exiled Force, whether anyone still plays it or not. A first case of good Pendulum Effect and good Monster Effect. Neither are super broken, but together it does make for a solid card to remove a Spell/Trap and a Monster in the same turn potentially.

No breaks even for Independence Day! Our countdown continues to number 7, a monster that isn’t a combo piece for once: Archfiend Eccentrick, a level 3 LIGHT Pendulum Fiend monster with, fittingly, a scale of 7. Eccentric isn’t very easy to search, though an upcoming monster from a certain Fiend archetype will be able to grab it, and of course Beyond the Pendulum can search it as well. With only 800 attack and 1000 defense, Eccentrick’s stats are quite bad, so what does it do?
Eccentrick’s sole Pendulum effect is a hard once per turn, letting you target any other Spell or Trap on the field and destroy both it and itself. It’s a backrow pop that you can access in Pendulum decks. That’s it! On the bright side, it does set itself up to be revived by a Pendulum Summon later.
Incidentally, Eccentrick’s monster effect mirrors its Pendulum effect, letting you tribute Eccentrick to target and destroy another monster on the field. Again, it’ll set itself up to be revived. Compared to the other monsters on this list, Eccentrick is very simple; it’s a searchable pop that can help break boards and recur itself practically every turn if you have the right scales. It’s a great tech card, though most Pendulum decks don’t have a real reason to run it over their in-house combo pieces. Maybe if Archfiends get some help, but for now Eccentrick is a tech that you might want to use.
+Effectively sets up its own revival
+Flexible boardbreaker that can destroy backrow or monsters
-Have to go out of your way to search it
-Spell Speed 1 destruction isn’t the most impactful way to break boards
