Giant Mimighoul – #ROTA-EN093

2 Level 1 monsters
Your non-Xyz “Mimighoul” monsters can attack directly while your opponent controls a face-down monster. You can only use each of the following effects of “Giant Mimighoul” once per turn. If this card is Xyz Summoned: You can add 1 “Mimighoul” card from your Deck to your hand. You can detach 1 material from this card, then target face-up cards on the field up to the number of face-down monsters your opponent controls; destroy them, and if you do, inflict 1000 damage to your opponent for each card destroyed.

Hello Pojo Fans,

Giant Mimighoul ends our look at Mimighouls and is the other Xyz for the archetype.

A bit more offensive than Mimighoul Throne, this monster also is a Rank 1 thankfully, but is generic in materials. Summoning this the turn after your Mimighoul board is set up can enable an OTK with Giant Mimighoul allowing all your non-Xyz Mimighouls to attack directly if your opponent has a face-down monster (Mimighoul you gave them). This OTK is enabled with Dungeon raising their ATKs by their DEF’s, giving you multiple Level 1 2000+ATK monsters. Some setup required, yes, but with this deck it isn’t one that is going to kill in a turn or two unless you go for something really big out of your Extra Deck or get lucky off Charm and steal something big out of the opponent’s Extra Deck twice.

When Xyz Summoned Giant Mimighoul can be another search for the archetype, netting you any Mimighoul card. Great for situational moments or as a basic recruiter, this effect can lead into the next one for more advantage. Face-up card destruction equal to face-down monsters your opponent controls as well as 1000LP burn per card just screams OTK potential on your turn. Giant Mimighoul searching a Mimighoul card can then set that monster to the opponent’s field, then detach to trigger its next effect and destroy a face-up card because there’s now a face-down on the opponent’s side. It can be spot removal, or it can do even more when combined with something like Book of Eclipse to destroy face-up Spell/Trap cards or Link Monsters. At it’s worst it should be a 1-for-1 and that’s plenty good. Search Mimighoul Archfiend with Giant Mimighoul, set Archfiend, detach to spot remove something, then force the flip and draw one, force a discard of your opponent’s card in hand, then get Archfiend back. Mimighoul Dragon can wipe away all face-up monsters your opponent control, now Giant Mimighoul can do the same for any face-up cards as long as you have some face-down monsters on their side of the field. Against something that is going to have a lot of face-up cards, like Snake-Eye or Fiendsmith, this is going to do damage.

Mimighoul, like any archetype that is a face-down theme require setup. Not everything in the game is speed speed speed. Giant Mimighoul can do LP damage, help with Mimighoul’s low ATK, search, and do at worst spot removal off its detach effect. Dungeon will make it 3300ATK which is great, but you may already have used Giant to go into Zeus by then. Either way, this card will pay off quickly and shouldn’t ever lose out without taking something with it.

The week ends off with what is seemingly the new boss monster for Mimighoul, and their other Rank 1, Giant Mimighoul.

Giant Mimighoul is a Rank 1 EARTH Rock Xyz with 1300 ATK and 2000 DEF. Same as Throne, but with improved ATK/DEF stats, especially with Dungeon making this 3300 ATK. Materials are any 2 Level 1 monsters, so you can use generic Level 1s for this. Your non-Xyz Mimighouls can attack directly while the opponent controls a face-down Defense Position monster, so you should be able to get some good damage in with the Mimighouls that get decent stats under Dungeon. The remaining effects are each a HOPT, first triggering on Xyz Summon to search for any Mimighoul card. Another searcher in the archetype is great to go with Master, Dungeon, and Dragon for a lot of consistency. Another way to get to a missing piece for your plays. You can detach a material from this card to target face-up cards on the field up to the number of face-down monsters the opponent controls to destroy them and deal 1000 damage to the opponent for each card destroyed. More ways to deal damage and remove the opponent’s cards is nice, or you could destroy your own stuff if you know the burn will finish the opponent off. It’ll add up if your monsters aren’t immediately getting a boost from Dungeon, and the opponent will really feel it if your monsters are being boosted and can attack directly due to this. Giant Mimighoul does a lot of damage to the opponent and it’s another searcher. It’s staple for the Mimighoul Extra Deck, even worthy of using 2 if you want.

Finishing the week is a new sub-boss for the Mimighoul archetype, Giant Mimighoul, a Rank 1 EARTH Rock Xyz monster. Unlike Mimighoul Throne, it’ll take any two level 1 monsters, so any deck that can make Rank 1s can field it, though there’s not much point outside of Mimighoul. Giant’s stats clock in at a surprisingly impressive 1300 attack and 2000 defense for a Rank 1 monster, which doesn’t seem like much at a glance, but with Mimighoul Dungeon active it’ll have a very impressive 3300 attack. Just, you know, not on the turn you summoned it!

While it’s alive, Giant will let all of your non-Xyz Mimighouls attack directly as long as your opponent controls a face-down monster. It’s an extra little push for OTK power that they really want, but it kinda stinks that Giant itself can’t attack directly with its (hypothetical) gargantuan 3300 attack, so you’ll still be mostly relying on your Kashtira monsters for some additional offensive pressure. Giant’s other two effects are both hard once per turn; upon being Xyz Summoned, Giant will simply search any Mimighoul card. You’ll obviously want to grab whatever extender you need at the moment, but it’s hard to go wrong with Mimighoul Room if you don’t have it yet. Finally, Giant can detach an Xyz material to target and destroy any face-up cards on the field up to the number of face-down monsters controlled by your opponent, then burn your opponent for 1000 Life Points for each destroyed card. The goal is to swarm Mimighouls to your opponent’s field then dismantle the rest of their board, likely taking out a chunk of their Life Points in the process, then finish them off with your own Mimighouls by attacking directly. It makes sense on paper, and you could hypothetically burn them for 5000, but in practice this’ll mostly be for boardbreaking because, again, Kashtira monsters are more reliable for pushing through the opponent because of Dungeon’s limitations. Giant’s main purpose is to be a combo piece with its search and, unfortunately, becoming Link fodder, but at least it’s a very good combo piece. It’s great on turn 3 too, so I think 2 copies is the magic number.

+Great and accessible combo piece for searching Mimighoul cards
+Can help break boards and push for OTKs
-Destruction effect is less effective if your opponent has too many face-down monsters
-Doesn’t allow itself to attack directly
