Double Wild – #SUDA-EN065

Target 1 Level 5 or lower monster you control; add 1 Level 10 monster from your Deck to your hand with the same original Type, then you can discard 1 card, and if you do, Special Summon 1 monster from your hand with that same Type, in Defense Position. You cannot Special Summon for the rest of this turn after this card resolves, except monsters with that original Type. You can only activate 1 “Double Wild” per turn.

Hello Pojo Fans,

Double Wild may be suited for the Yugi’s Knights, but it can find a decent amount of play within other archetypes.

Quick-Play searcher for a Level 10 monster and all you’ve gotta do is target a Level 5 or lower monster on your filed. The monster searched has to be the same Type as the monster you target with Double Wild, but that isn’t a problem as archetypes revolve around one Type typically. While it won’t let you search out a piece of high-level tech, it does get you to something within your Deck without having to work hard for it.

Special Summoning for a discard cost isn’t much, and can set up your grave for later depending on the archetype. Special Summoning in Defense Position isn’t ideal, but you are likely Special Summoning the Level 10 you searched, so here’s to hoping it has some good DEF, or that you triggered this in your opponent’s End Phase. At worst, another body on board for Extra Deck stuff. You get locked into that Type for the rest of the turn, so make sure any other Type monsters you wanna summon get summoned beforehand.

This card would be almost unplayable if you had to target a Level 5 specifically, but since it revolves around the Kings, Queens, Jacks Knights cards, they thankfully included everything below Level 5 (Jacks Knight). Because of this, you can target a small monster and go after your big monster, and that makes it quite splashable in a few archetypes. Yubel Fiendsmith comes to mind with Yubel and Spirit of Yubel being Level 10 and that archetype packing several Level 5 and below Fiend monsters. Earthbound could use this if you can match the Type of the specific Earthbound you are searching. Timelord are all Fairy and could make good use of this as a search option, as could Ryu-Ge if, like Earthbounds, match the Type of the Ryu-Ge you are targeting.

A surprisingly splashable Quick-Play that was meant to be anime card support, but wound up being decently useful for some archetypes. Yubel have ways of getting to their monsters already, but this doesn’t cost anything to activate, it’s easy to activate, and it doesn’t hinder you after you Special Summon. Even if you don’t Special Summon the Yubel you search, you can summon a different Fiend monster instead.

Midweek brings us to one of the most interesting cards in Supreme Darkness, a card that can use your sub-Level 5 monsters to help search your Level 10+ monsters: Double Wild.

Double Wild is a Quick-Play Spell that lets you target a Level 5 or lower monster you control to add a Level 10 or higher monster from your Deck to your hand with the same original Type, then you can discard a card to Special Summon a monster with the same Type in Defense Position. Also for the rest of the turn after you resolve this, you cannot Special Summon except for monsters of that original Type. So the most blatant use for this is in Poker Knights to target your King’s, Queen’s, Jack’s, or Joker’s Knight to get to Arcana Triumph Joker and summon it, which is a more cost-effective way to get Arcana Triumph Joker on the field compared to her effect. Tistina could use this as well to summon Demigod of the Tistina or Crystal God Tistina by targeting any other monster in the archetype. You could just use this in Dinosaur to search for Ultimate Conductor Tyranno and summon a different Dinosaur from the hand, but it isn’t like Dinos struggle to get to UCT and any other Dinos on the board. That’s the thing, you can just use this as a searcher at the bare minimum and if you search a monster that can’t be Special Summoned off a card like this, it doesn’t stop you from summoning anything else instead, just as long as Types match. Machines might be one of the best places for this card with cards like Machina Citadel, Super Express Bullet Train, and several other good Level 10 Machines, and EARTH Machine usually only summons Machine monsters anyway. HOPT on using this, of course. There are semblances of a good card here that I’m sure players can find utility for now and in the future. It’s not broken, but there’s a strategy out there that’ll like the consistency boost of a card like this.

One of the more interesting one-offs in this set, our next card is the Quick-Play Spell Double Wild. Double Wild can only be activated once per turn and has a single effect that says an awful lot, but it’s pretty straightforward! Double Wild will target one of your level 5 or lower monsters, then search a level 10 monster with the same type. Additionally, by discarding a card, you can Special Summon a monster with that type from your hand in defense position. You don’t have to summon the same monster, but if you’re using Double Wild, that’s probably the reason you’re playing it in the first place. This all comes with a nasty restriction of locking you into that type for the rest of the turn, which isn’t an issue for some decks, but in others it will be a colossal pain. As the art suggests, the card is intended for Poker Knights, as you’ll be able to target Joker’s Knight or any of the Warrior monsters to search and immediately summon Arcana Triumph Joker. Icejade can also use it to access Icejade Kosmochlor, and EARTH Machine can use it to search level 10 bodies. Beast piles appreciate being able to search Alpha, the Master of Beasts, though you won’t be able to summon it through Double Wild. It’s a small boost to some decks, but the fact you need to field a monster first adds it to the unfortunate roster of “2 card searchers” so it’s not a great card overall. Plus, discarding is annoying! Still, if your deck is monster-heavy and really wants to access a certain level 10 monster, it’s an option.

+Can help search and summon level 10 monsters
-Requires you to field a low-level monster first
-Strict lock that limits combo potential
