Hello Pojo Fans,

Liberator Eto is the last card this week and has quite the text attached to it, which might scare off a few players because reading is fun, but mental.

On the surface, Eto is a 4000ATK Reptile that is Level 8, though you won’t be using Trade-In with it because you need to summon this monster. Paying half your LP isn’t a bad thing as they don’t mean much to players, but you also need your opponent to have a monster on field or in grave that has an effect that “activates in the hand or Monster Zone in response to a card or effect activation.” Long story short, something that reads like S:P Little Knight or Ash Blossom, cards like that, and thankfully cards like that are seen everywhere so Eto does have some reliability in terms of being summoned.

Can’t be used as Extra Deck fodder and its summon can’t be negated, thankfully because you are depending on your opponent having a certain card and paying half your LP, it should be summoned without a hitch. Your opponent won’t want to steal it because they can’t use it for Extra Deck stuff, though they can steal it for tribute fodder for effects/summons or just attack with it because it has 4000ATK. Unaffected by monster effects activated on the opponent’s side of the field during your turn helps against spot removal Quick Effects, but won’t save you from something that may activate in the grave to stop your from attacking (something like A/D Changer).

Liberator Eto likely can be summoned against any deck in the game because almost all decks play cards that will allow you to summon it, especially when one of them is Ryzeal Detonator. There’s enough good cards lurking in almost any deck for Eto to Special Summon off of and thankfully you can draw and summon it long after that card was played. If it was in response rather than that card being in the grave or on the field it would be unplayable. As it, it is still situational to an extent, but decks like Mitsurugi or Ogdoadic, or high-level Reptile decks could run Eto.

The week ends with a gigantic monster with a very unique ability and application for use in a Deck: Liberator Eto.

Eto is a Level 8 DARK Reptile with 4000 ATK and 0 DEF. Never scoff at 4000 ATK, DARK is great, and Reptile seems nice after we just got Mitsurugi. It cannot be Normal Summoned or Set and must be Special Summoned from your hand or graveyard by paying half your LP while your opponent has a Monster Card in their field or graveyard with an effect that activates in the hand or Monster Zone in response to a card or effect activation. If the opponent has a Ghost Girl or one of the several monsters that serve as an interruption on the field when you activate your effects, you can slap a 4000 ATK monster on the field at the cost of half your LP, which is fine if you can get the opponent’s to 0 with this. You can only summon this card once per turn this way and its summon cannot be negated, so it’s most likely hitting the field unless you run into a wild Torrential Tribute. This face-up card cannot be used as Fusion, Synchro, Xyz, or Link Material, and during your turn only, it is unaffected by monster effects activated on the opponent’s field. So summoning this means you just get a 4000 ATK monster that sits there and is slightly difficult to out. At the very least it can keep coming back out as long as it goes back to the hand or grave and the opponent doesn’t get rid of the card that makes the summoning condition live, which is highly unlikely. It’s a cool card, I’ll give it that. I don’t think it’s something to run in every Deck as a response to Ash Blossom being a staple, but Reptiles have no issue getting this to the graveyard with cards like the Ogdoadics, Snake Rain, and even Mitsurugi Ritual, so it can find a home in a Reptile pile at the very least.

Advanced Rating: 3/5

Art: 5/5 It’s unique, I’ll give it that.

Closing off the week is the latest noob bait card to grace Yugioh, Liberato Eto, a level 8 DARK Reptile monster. As a Reptile, you can search it with King of the Feral Imps and being level 8 and DARK gives it synergy with Ogdoadic too. Eto packs a whopping 4000 attack that blows almost every other level 8 monster out of the water, though it compensates for it by having a miserable 0 defense. Hope your opponent doesn’t run Stop Attack! Eto caused a small stir in casual circles when it was revealed, but you’re about to see why it’s not so hot after all.

Eto’s a Nomi monster, so you have to Special Summon it through its own effect. While Eto is in your hand or Graveyard and your opponent has a monster with an effect that responds to a card or effect activation in their Graveyard or on their field, you’ll be able to Special Summon Eto once per turn from your hand or Graveyard by paying half of your Life Points. Losing 4000 Life Points is a big deal, so what do you get out of Eto? Well, its summon can’t be negated, and it can’t be used as material for an Extra Deck summon (sorry, Rank 8 fans), but during your own turn, it’s unaffected by monster effects from your opponent’s field. A few players saw this card and thought this was the answer to modern Yugioh: the theory is that you’ll plop Eto on the board against your opponent’s “infinite negates” and they’ll be helpless to stop Eto from swinging against their monsters. Effectively, it’s meant to counter boss monsters with Quick Effects. What Eto doesn’t counter is the smorgasbord of decks that can utilize backrow for disruption. Maliss can use Maliss C MTP-07 to banish Eto, while Fiendsmith hybrids can simply make Fiendsmith Desirae with enough Equips to surpass Eto’s 4000 attack. On paper, Eto can put Ryzeal in a bit of trouble as they rely on Ryzeal Detonator for their primary disruption, but they have zero issues with waiting for their turn to come back around to rebuild their board and promptly demolish Eto; plus, some builds run Ryzeal Plasma Hole which will also get rid of Eto during your turn. This doesn’t even consider the plethora of backrow-based techs that can get rid of it, like Book of Moon and Book of Eclipse or simply using Infinite Impernance so standard disruptions can remove Eto as well. Eto could’ve been a decent level 8 fodder for decks lke Ogdoadic, but the Extra Deck summon restriction makes it very obvious you’re not supposed to use it like that. Eto does have one amusing niche; you can run it as a tech in Kaiju, since giving your opponent Jizukiru, the Star Destroying Kaiju or Gameciel, the Sea Turtle Kaiju will make Eto’s summoning condition live, and you’ll be able to beat over either of them easily. If you hate Quick Effects, suffice to say that Eto is not the solution to your problems. Try Gren Maju stun instead!

+Impressive attack stat
+Easy to access with King of Feral Imps
-Cuts your Life Points in half
-Far too easy to kill it with most modern decks to make summoning it worthwhile
