King of Lullaby Hello Pojo Fans, Never thought I’d see Card Destruction come back. A -1 at first glance, but in the right deck this card is nuts. Fill your grave with everything you need and only lose one card. You also get to see what your opponent is playing if you launch this turn one, allowing you to prep your strategy and not play on your heels. A card from Yu-Gi-Oh’s infancy, Shaddolls, Burning Abyss, Dark World/DANGER!, and many other decks that revolve highly around their grave or setting off effects of monsters by throwing them into the grave get a HUGE boost from this. This card is splashable in any deck, and will be considered in many decks. It can fix your hand, though when you are topdecking this is all-but useless. Back then, Card Destruction was used alongside Painful Choice to fill the grave for the chaos monsters. Now, it can be the catalyst for several strategies to go into overdrive. This will have an effect on the meta, I am sure of that. It likely won’t bring Shaddolls or Burning Abyss to Tier 1 status, but it will cause some waves, and likely will hit the ban list within a year again, like Snatch Steal. WarlockBlitz We’re throwing back to days when you throwout an entire hand. The only thing wrong with this card is the name. None of the cards in either player’s hand are destroyed. However, Card Destruction is a great Normal Magic Card with no cost. Just activate it to make all player’s discard their entire hand and then draw the same number of cards they discarded. Very simple, yet very powerful. Obviously, many effects can and will trigger. Or you can be resetting a bad hand into a good one. Then again, your opponent can do the same thing, so be careful when you use this. With Omega at 1 but Card Destruction and Morphing Jar back, no one’s hand is safe. Score: 4.5/5 Art: 4.5/5 |
Crunch$G On Throwback Thursday, we look at a card that was banned on the September 2013 F/L TCG List but not the OCG List and has finally come back to the TCG, Card Destruction. Card Destruction is a Normal Spell that lets both players discard their entire hand and draw cards equal to the number of cards discarded. Well if this isn’t Konami telling us to play Danger! I don’t know what is. Back in the day, Dark Worlds easily triggered off this effect as they wanted to be discarded, Burning Abyss could of made use of this since they all have GY effects, Dragon Rulers I believe used this since they could be summoned from the GY, and now Danger! gets to use this to get their discard effects off with greater ease. Not only that, but if your opponent had a good hand, they would lose everything and have to re-draw a potentially less optimal hand. This can backfire on you if your opponent has stuff that triggers in the GY as well, but this card can really pay off for you as well in several different decks. This is a natural minus 1, but you should be gaining advantage off what you discard. Card Destruction is a good card, even in 2018 and will only get better with more archetypes that need to put stuff in the GY.

Alex Searcy Card Destruction is super fitting for Throwback Thursday (last reviewed when it became Banned here https://www.pojo.com/yu-gi-oh/CardOfTheDay/2013/Aug/29.shtml ) but let’s talk about now…as well as then, and before and beyond. Card Destruction use to be a card that really only fit in a handful of Decks…things like Deckout, about any true combo and cycle Deck, and most One Turn Kill Decks, to get what you need as quickly as possible. It can/could be a very good disruption card too, especially back when there were less ways to retrieve cards from the Graveyard, losing a card (or cards) could just destroy a strategy. Then we got new themes where having cards in the Graveyard is actually a really good thing…Dark Armed Dragon, Lightsworn, Dark World, Heroes, even more recently a theme like Danger! comes to mind. Card Destruction can be a huge asset to you in the right theme. As good as it can be, it can still be absolutely useless to others. In a Deck that may need to keep resources on Hand or Field, cycling things to the Graveyard can still not be very desirable, and Card Destruction is all but a -1 to you. The -1 is a given regardless, but if you’re immediately getting something back (again say Dark World or Danger! just to name a couple) that -1 can turn into a game changing multiple +X rather quickly. Timing is everything with a card like Card Destruction. Rating: 4/5 Art: I spy Cyber Tech Alligator, Widespread Ruin, Garma Sword, Garma Sword Oath, and a face down card…nice blue hand, giant claws/nails…golden sleeve…5/5 |
