We are here with another card preview of……Eevee & Snorlax GX Tag Team (SM Team Up 120/181). As a Tag Team GX Pokemon, it has to deal with the hurdles from both being a GX and a Tag Team. Usual establishments include being excluded, countered, or harmed from certain cards, high HP, and giving up THREE prizes if a Tag Team GX has been knocked out. It is a Basic Pokémon, which makes it easy to get into play and consumes less deck space as opposed to evolutions. The Colorless typing won’t be able to exploit weakness and is stopped cold by Necrozma-GX’s Light’s End Ability. It’s 270 HP is the second highest printed HP of the Pokémon TCG, though the Fighting weakness can still prove significant and dangerous, even with this much HP, as it takes a Buzzwole to OHKO this Pokemon with Sledgehammer backed with either Diancie Prism Star and/or Beast Energy Prism Star. And a retreat cost of four is a lot unless you have tricks to eliminate the retreat cost like Zeraora-GX’s Thunderclap Zone.
Eevee and Snorlax GX has three attacks. Cheer On costs C and lets you attach an Energy card from your hand to one of your Pokemon. The wording can mean that you can attach a Special Energy card, and looking at the other two attacks, ideally you would want to attach a Double Colorless Energy to it. It’s next attack is Dump Truck Press, which costs CCCC for 120 damage, plus 120 more damage if the Defending Pokémon is an Evolution Pokemon. This will 2HKO Basic EX/GX Pokemon at best and OHKO the rest. If decks using Evolution cards have another thing to worry about, Dump Press adds on their list of worries. And then there’s Megaton Friends, which costs CCCC+ for 210 damage. If this Pokemon has at least one extra energy in addition to the cost – effectively CCCCC – you get to draw cards until you have 10 cards in your hand. The damage is enough to hit certain numbers, and if you can get your hand size as low as possible, then the payout will be huge. This is worth the GX attack, as one would imagine how insane the GX attack would be if one uses that attack repeatedly. So mind that your opponent can take advantage by using their Copycat to get its own hand size to ten cards.
So, how do we use this? There lies within the horizon…you can put this anywhere. Turn 1 Kiawe ensures that you get to attack much sooner. Zeraora-GX can help retreat for free with a Lightning energy and can even accelerate energy, though you lose using other GX attacks in the process. Speaking about accelerating energies, there’s also Malamar, both Magnezone, and much much more from the Expanded card pool. It’s probably too much for me to list them all. Overall, this card has its fair share of benefits and drawbacks, and will see a decent amount of play until they find something that works or that it doesn’t work at all. In Limited, if you pull this, you will run this…unless you’re being overwhelmed from opposing Fighting types.
