Nibiru, the Primal Being – #8 – Top 12 Yugioh Cards of 2019

Number 8 on our list brings us to one of the most terrifying hand traps that’s been printed since Maxx “C”, and that is Nibiru, the Primal Being.

Nibiru is a Level 11 LIGHT Rock with 3000 ATK and 600 DEF. Level 11 is a scarce Level like I said yesterday, the ATK is great and the DEF isn’t, being LIGHT is pretty good and all Rocks are searchable with Gallant Granite, so being a Rock is much better now. During the Main Phase, if your opponent performed 5 or more summons that turn, you can tribute every single monster on the field to Special Summon this card from the hand and then give your opponent a Primal Being Token with all the qualities of Nibiru except that its ATK and DEF are equal to the combined ATK and DEF of all the tributed monsters. So this can turn a terrifying board into simply a very strong Token that should be easy to get rid of, especially if you tributed mostly Link Monsters so it can have very low DEF. It’s a downside that it also tributes your own monsters, but you’ll most likely use this when your field isn’t as good as the opponent’s or on their first turn when you haven’t done really anything yet. Nibiru can be a complete blowout against the opponent, especially early on in a duel, so I feel 3 is good for a Main and Side Deck.

Can’t believe I forgot the great equalizer to the big-board meta we are in: #8 on the countdown, Nibiru, the Primal Being (oversight on my part not looking into the mega tins for choices).

In a meta where the goal is to build a big board with many negations, Nibiru needed to be mass released. Your opponent Normal or Special Summoning five or more times in the turn happens much much more than ever before. The best time would be dropping this big bad after your opponent has shown their strategy for the turn and gotten at the very least to about 90% complete. Yes, there are times where you can drop Nibiru earlier and shut down the turn, especially if this isn’t the first turn of the game and there are certain things already set up to disrupt your opponent. The potential of giving them a big token is something no one cares about because you are getting rid of monsters and giving them a token in defense which can’t be changed this turn (don’t summon the token for them in attack mode). The board wipe this card can go is amazing, it is a Side Deck staple at this point and many run 3 of it in the Main Deck. Most of the meta decks can get Nibiru’d, and some can press through it, but that isn’t the point of Nibiru, the point is to cripple your opponents strategy of big boarding you and making it impossible for you to play Yu-Gi-Oh.

This card needed to happen, as did the other two released in the tins, and as a player who never played a meta deck, I’m happy they didn’t make this a YCS prize card.

My #8:  Ghost Sister & Spooky Dogwood
This cards position on my list:  N/A

Again, 3/5 for the first week, Alex isn’t complaining.  I really felt we did this pretty recently (as happens sometimes in these countdowns) and we did, all of two months ago.  

If your opponent Normal or Special Summons 5 of more Monsters during the Main Phase, you can Special Summon this card by Tributing as many face-up Monsters on the Field as possible.  Now this does include your Monsters, but odds are, if you’re opponent just swung the board in that manner, you probably are in a not great Monster position anyway, I would assume most often.

Special Summon of this card come from your Hand, and if you’re successful you get a ‘Primal Being Token’ who gains attack and defense equal to the attack and defense of all Monsters Tributed to bring out this card.  No specification as to position, so with 3000 attack, throw that Token out in Defense, and you should get rid of it easily.  Low defense Monsters are insanely common.  This is a great Hand trap/surprise; I’m a fan.

Art:  5/5  So Nibiru fits the artwork here.  The Nibiru cataclysm is a supposed disastrous encounter between the Earth and a large planetary object that certain groups believed would take place in the early 21st century. Believers in this doomsday event usually refer to this object as Nibiru or Planet X.  I get that here
