David Fanany Player since 1995 There used to be somewhat of a tradition of very flexible multicolored removal spells in blocks with appropriate color themes – Mortify in Guildpact, Terminate in Alara Reborn – and it looks like it’s back with Mythos of Nethroi. If anything, it’s even more significant than it looks: there aren’t many ways to destroy planeswalkers at instant speed in recent sets, and this is a spell that simultaneously gives you a maindeck Naturalize option. Much like it’s predecessors, it’s a great reason to get into its colors for your next deck. Constructed: 4/5 |

Three mana for a largely-upgraded Murder? Interesting enough. Mythos of Nethroi is a decent kill spell if you can’t pay to turn on its wider targeting, though I’ll mention that you can target any non-land card even if it wouldn’t die to the effect; Murder has always been at least playable enough. But three mana to destroy nearly any troublesome permanent is a really solid deal; I would have preferred the ability to target lands on it, but instant-speed land destruction at three mana just screams for abuse. It’s a flexible kill spell with a lot of legs, and so I expect Mythos of Nethroi to be a pretty popular card for all of its Standard run. Constructed: 4 |
