Crunch$G Next up is a card that would of been terrible if they just kept the anime effect and not add anything else, but instead they added an effect to make the card playable: Weathering Soldier. Weathering Soldier is a Level 4 EARTH Rock with 2000 ATK and 1200 DEF. The downside to having 2000 ATK on an Effect Monster is just impending, but it’s nice to be an EARTH and a Rock. If this card is destroyed by battle or just sent to the graveyard by a card effect, you can search for Fossil Fusion or a differently named card that lists Fossil Fusion in its text from Deck to hand. Nice way in the archetype to get you to your Fossil Fusion or various options. You can search the Foolish Burial for Rocks since for some reason it lets you draw a card if Fossil Fusion was in your grave when you used it, or search for Specimen Inspection if you know what the opponent is playing and want to set up your Fossil Fusion properly. This is a hard once per turn effect, which is something we’re used to on modern searching cards. The second effect is the anime effect where it loses 600 ATK during your End Phase, which of course they weren’t going to let you have a 2000 ATK monster that easy. Either way Weathering Soldier is a nice card for Fossil users and probably worth using to try to get to the graveyard ASAP for that Fossil Fusion search. Alex Searcy Weathering Soldier is a Level 4, Rock Monster, with 2000 attack and 1200 defense. So we all take a minute and admire 2000 attack on a Level 4. Rock fits the Dino/Fossil theme, so that’s good, as does the Earth. So, our Soldier nets you a Fossil Fusion or a card specifically listing Fossil Fusion, other than itself, when it’s destroyed by Battle or sent to the Graveyard by a Card Effect. Note it can be an effect from either player, which is good. And, since this card loses 600 attack during each of your End Phases, being destroyed by Battle is easy as well. Suffice to say, getting it to the Graveyard to get your card should be rather easy. He can be a one turn beater as well, and since he can get your card by being sent to the Graveyard (again even via your own effect) there’s no reason you can’t dump and fetch your card and perform your Fossil Fusion (or whatever it is you happened to pull). Reliable enough combo card here in my opinion. Rating: 3.5/5 Art: 4.5/5 I like this. He does seem to look as though he’s…weathered quite a lot, no? |
King of Lullaby Hello Pojo Fans, Weathering Soldier is your Fossil Fusion searcher, as well as one of its materials, both being able to be used in many decks as a package to get to a big monster. Two ways to activate Soldier’s effect, the best being it going to the grave in any fashion. Foolish Burial Soldier, get the Fossil Fusion search or a card mentioning Fossil Fusion, and your grave has half the requirements for the Fusion Summon (at the least). As mentioned yesterday, Fossil Fusion uses both graveyards, so while you are depending on your opponent at times, it won’t be too hard to meet requirements. The Fossil Dragon side of the Fossil Fusion monsters need your opponent to have a requirement, while Fossil Warriors do not, but Fossil Fusion is needed for all and Fossil Fusion cares about the opponents graveyard. As for something other than Fossil Fusion using Weathering Soldier, your choices are limited to three, but they work entirely with the archetype surrounding Fossil Fusion to gain advantage. Time Stream can jump a “Fossil” Fusion monster up two levels, while the best of the three, Miracle Rupture, works best if you already played Fossil Fusion and it’s in your grave, being a draw one and a Foolish Burial for Rock-Type monsters. On its own, Weathering Soldier may lose ATK each End Phase of yours, but what odds are there that it will be on the field for long? In addition, you WANT Weathering Soldier destroyed and off the field, the ATK drop works in your favor. Weathering Soldier alongside Fossil Fusion are like another (but lesser) version of the Red-Eyes Dark Dragoon package every deck runs for now in the game. If you draw Weathering though, unlike the previously mentioned package, you can use it to get to your Fusion card, then get it into the grave and use the Fusion card: it facilitates the card it searches, always appreciated.
