King of Lullaby Hello Pojo Fans, Ice Dragon’s Prison is an interesting trap that may see itself in mirror matches more than regular play. Normal Trap reborn effect but gives you one of your opponents grave monsters. Effects are negated, standard balance, but then you get the choice for a 1-for-1 monster removal, if applicable. Most of the time you’ll use this just for the reborn and use their monster for some Extra Deck work, but you could always trade in the monster you just brought back to banish it and a monster on your opponents field. This works best against decks that run a lot of the same Type. Monsters out of the Extra Deck won’t always have the same Type as those in the Main Deck, but a lot of times they do, and that’s where this card can put in work. You get rid of a graveyard monster of your opponents, then a monster on the field, that’s a 2-for-1 for you, cost free. The “you can” gives you flexibility if you would rather just use their monster as a beat stick or fodder for your Extra Deck, which I like. Could see some play. An easy card to use and both effects are good. If it were a Spell it would easily see play. Advanced-3.5/5 Art-5/5 Until Next Time |
Crunch$G We move on from Spells and take a look at a very interesting Trap Card from RotD: Ice Dragon’s Prison. IDP is a Normal Trap with the effect to target a monster in the opponent’s graveyard and Special Summon it to your field with its effects negated, then you can banish a monster from both player’s fields that have the same Type as the monster you revived. This is a cool 2-for-1 feature of disrupting the opponent’s graveyard and their plays by reviving one of their monsters and then banishing the monster you revived alongside a monster they just summoned and want to use the effect of, assuming they are of the same Types. Even if the opponent doesn’t have a monster with the Type of the monster you revived from their grave, you still get a body on board from their graveyard and take that resource from them until they destroy the monster or you send it away for a material or cost or whatnot, and that’s because the banish effect is optional. It’s an overall useful card, balanced with a once per turn like we see on a lot of cards. Ice Dragon’s Prison can serve a pretty good niche that no other card can really fulfill and certainly worth trying for a Main or Side Deck, especially as a Trap Trick target, and it can be much better in other formats. Advanced Rating: 4/5 Art: 5/5 Trishula and Ascalon battling just looks like something you’d want to actually see, can’t wait for the Ice Barrier and Dragunity Structure Decks if the TCG gets them. |
Alex Searcy Ice Dragon’s Prison is a Normal Trap, and an interesting one at that A modified Monster Reborn only pertaining to the opponent’s Graveyard is cool Even if whatever effects being attached are negated. You secondly have an optional effect to remove a Monster from each side of the Field from play, so long as the Monsters are the same type. This latter effect is great in being optional as this isn’t always going to be applicable. Best case it is and you either remove a big threat for a minor card on your side. It’s a constructed card to fully utilize, but tech at the very least if only for the revival. You can easily get an Extra Deck play or Tribute from that alone. Might be a nice Side Deci card too. Rating: 3.5/5 Art: 5/5 Quite a majestic looking battle going on here, no? |
