Spiral Fusion – Yu-Gi-Oh! Review

Spiral Fusion is a Fusion Spell for the Gaia archetype, but does better than generic Polymerization-like card.

If you use it for Gaia the Dragon Champion you get double the ATK and double attacks during each Battle Phase, infinitely better than Polymerization. However, what also makes this better than Poly is the fact that you can go for ANY Dragon Fusion monster with it, not just Gaia-based cards. Sure, the cards have to be in your hand or on the field, but that flexibility is welcome because you could summon something like Borreload Furious Dragon. Having a 5200ATK Gaia the Dragon Champion that can attack two monsters each turn is great, 5000+ATK is big enough to take anything down and combined with other cards within the archetype like Spiral Spear Strike you can begin to gain some good advantage on your opponent.

Spiral Fusion helps Gaia the Dragon Champion become a boss monster like never before and when you are using three cards for a 2600ATK monster it needs to be a seriously good monster for that kind of investment. You can drop Gaia the Magical Knight turn 0, Special Summon Curse of Dragon, the Cursed Dragon from your hand, search this card and get your Gaia the Dragon Champion, but it’s still an investment that you at least now have a potential good return on.

Now we look at the new Fusion Spell for the Gaia archetype: Spiral Fusion.

Spiral Fusion is a Normal Spell that lets you Fusion Summon any Dragon Fusion from the Extra Deck by using monsters on field or in hand as material, which the versatility outside Gaia is nice I guess. If you Fusion Summon a Gaia the Dragon Champion, which all the Fusions will treat themselves as Gaia the Dragon Champion, then your Fusion Summoned monster gains 2600 ATK and can make 2 attacks on monsters each Battle Phase, allowing for some easy OTKs, especially if you have Spiral Spear Strike to get the piercing effect on your Fusions. All the Gaia Fusions naturally have 2600 ATK, so you’re getting a 5200 ATK double attacker just for Fusion Summoning, which allows for some big damage. It’s great that it is searchable as well and not a hard once per turn so you can get more 5200 ATK Gaias on field. You probably still play three of this as it’s likely how you intend to win with Gaia. Summon a big monster and hit hard.

Spiral Fusion…a Fusion card even more associated with Swirls than usual   Which is fitting and lazy.  A Normal Magic letting you bring out any Dragon Fusion using any of your cards from the Field or Hand is good, even if you don’t get the secondary effects for not using this for Gaia the Dragon Champion.  I’d argue if you weren’t using it for him, that you’re wasting it, with better Fusion cards, even for Dragons available.  If you choose Gaia you get a 5600 double attacker which is great.  No protection added, but it’s permanent, and that could be game ending.  Spiral Spear Strike would add Trample and that would be scary.  As well as being able to turbo Draw.  This card is decent.  It has potential, but it gets better if you have other things to use with it.
