Pot of Prosperity – #BVLO-EN065

Banish 3 or 6 cards of your choice from your Extra Deck, face-down; for the rest of this turn after this card resolves, any damage your opponent takes is halved, also excavate cards from the top of your Deck equal to the number of cards banished, add 1 excavated card to your hand, place the rest on the bottom of your Deck in any order. You can only activate 1 “Pot of Prosperity” per turn. You cannot draw cards by card effects the turn you activate this card.

Hello Pojo Fans,

Pot of Prosperity is the latest in the “Pot of” family of spell cards, and one could argue better than Extravagance.

Still banishing three or six, but now you choose instead of it being random (unless you reorganized your Extra Deck knowing you were gonna play Extravagance at some point, which would be cheating, don’t be a dick), which is much better. Excavate instead of drawing can be a good or bad depending on your deck, but with most decks using the graveyard extensively now, it’s a good thing. A 1-for-1 and the remaining excavated cards are on the bottom in any order, preventing you from drawing them next turn, an annoying occurrence that happens with other “Pot of” cards. The halve damage for the rest of the turn isn’t a bad side effect because you’re still doing damage. It doesn’t force you to activate it first or stop Special Summons, giving it an edge over those other draw cards. You can’t use any other draw effects, which is likely its biggest knock, but because you get to see the card you are going to get, get to choose which Extra Deck cards get banished, and only need to banish three to get your one from the excavated, Prosperity is a pretty good draw card worth playing. It’s not perfect, and for decks that don’t care about their Extra Deck they will likely play Extravagance still, but this is defiantly worth playing.

We got a new Pot card, so you know what people are most likely going to want from the new set. Today we look at Pot of Prosperity.

PoP is a Normal Spell that lets you banish 3 or 6 cards of your choice from your Extra Deck face-down to look at an equal number of top cards from your Deck to choose one of the revealed cards and add it to your hand while the other cards go back to the bottom of the Deck. The downsides are you cannot draw other cards via an effect that turn and all damage you do. The restrictions are worth digging a few cards into your Deck in hopes to find the card you want to hit. It’s like Pot of Duality was in 2010, only this card lets you make your plays with Special Summons. Halving damage means no OTKs, but this doesn’t seem like the card for an OTK Deck anyways. You also get to choose what you banish, unlike with Pot of Extravagance, meaning you can make sure you keep the important Extra Deck monsters and not have to run multiples of the ones you actually want. That instantly lets Pot of Prosperity be played in other Decks. Losing draws via effects for the turn does sting, but you can get around that by not focusing so much on draw cards and instead get actual searches. This card is a hard once per turn, like all modern Pot cards are due to them being good at generating advantage. It’s a card that doesn’t generate any plusses, but it lets you choose what you banish, unlike Extravagance, and it lets you Special Summon, unlike Duality. It’s a Pot you can justify playing in a variety of different Decks like Pot of Desires. It’s pretty good.

PoP is the newest Pot Magic card to be released, and some of this is similar to another Pot card, while still being different enough to do its own thing.  Removing 3 or 6 cards of your choosing face down from your Extra Deck let’s you excavate the same number of cards from your Deck.  One card of your choice is added to your Hand, while the remaining 2 or 5 cards return to the bottom of your Deck.

So…a free choice of a card by removing 3 or 6 cards.  Surely better earlier in the game, but as I’ve said with other Pot cards, I don’t like face down removal.  Further making matters worse, your opponent takes half Damage after resolution of this card (so if it doesn’t resolve, no worries on that) but it’s ALL Damage.  Not just Battle, and I don’t like that much either.

Oh, and you can’t Draw cards via effect for the rest of the Turn either.  Sure, that can be played around, but you’re giving up a lot and really hindering yourself, even just for a Turn, for a single card.  Yes, sometimes a game can be won or lost on a card, but there’s too much random luck (or the lack there of) for my taste here.

Art:  2.5/5  Meh like we haven’t seen these Pots before; the art for these is getting lazy.
