Hello Pojo Fans,

Double time Tuesday this week with Ursarctic Mikpolar and Ursarctic Megapolar.

Mikpolar does what all the Level 7 Ursarctic monsters do: tribute a Level 7 or higher from your hand to Special Summon itself. Each get a different effect, Mikpolar gets you a Ursarctic monster from the deck, breaking things even for you. The monster you search can lead into you summoning other Ursarctic monsters, like Megapolar.

Megapolar is one of your Level 8 Tuner monsters that has the same requirements for summon as all of your Ursarctic monsters. When Megapolar is Special Summoned while you’ve got another Ursarctic monster on the field you can pop a spell/trap your opponent has. Both monsters lock you into Special Summoning monsters with levels only, so no Link or Xyz, because how easily these monsters are summoned would make Rank 7’s broken once more (especially with not needing them to be in Extra Monster Zones).

All the Level 7 Ursarctic monsters will get you another Ursarctic in some way. Ursarctic Mikbilis may be the best because it Special Summons the Ursarctic instead of adding it to your hand. As for Megapolar, it is the only Level 8 Ursarctic that directly deals with and gets rid of something on the field. Banishing from the grave a card or flipping a monster face-down are good, but directly taking away a card is much better.

The Level 7’s lead into the Level 8’s. You’ll technically end up with two monsters on the field, tributed two monsters from your hand, balanced that our with a search from your 7 and an effect from your 8, but that’s if everything goes through. Your summons will get you to whichever of your three Synchro Monsters in the archetype you want to choose from.

A double review this week to take care of each version the Polar Bears have in this archetype as we look at Ursarctic Mikpolar and Ursarctic Megapolar.

Mikpolar is a Level 7 WATER Beast with 700 ATK and 2000 DEF while Megapolar is a Level 8 WATER Beast-Warrior Tuner with 2500 ATK and 700 DEF. Mikpolar has okay DEF while Megapolar provides the good ATK, and both 700 stats aren’t great. Beast and Beast-Warrior are fun typings and WATER is great. So both have a Quick Effect during the Main Phase to tribute a Level 7 or higher monster from the hand to Special Summon these cards from hand, helping get these on board with great ease, even if it’s pretty resource heavy to get going. You can only summon monsters with Levels for the rest of the turn, which I guess is to avoid Xyz abuse or Link abuse and keeps you focused on the Synchros once you start using the Ursarctics. The Mik versions are meant to help get the advantage back, and Mikpolar is the best as it searches any monster in the archetype besides itself, mainly getting to your Tuners probably to summon or more tribute fodder if you don’t have the cost-nullfiying cards. Now the Mega Ursarctics help get rid of the opponent’s cards, and Megapolar on summon while controlling another Ursarctic lets you target and destroy a Spell/Trap the opponent controls, which is fine as backrow removal is always useful. Every effect is a hard once per turn, which is perfectly fine. Both of these are decent cards for Ursarctic, especially Mikpolar being the searcher for the archetype. You want to max on Mikpolar and Megapolar might vary in ratios just like the rest of the Mega forms.

Advanced Rating: 3.5/5 for Mikpolar and 3.25/5 for Megapolar

So these guys, at least in stats, are more or less opposites of each other.  One, Mikpolar, has 700 attack, while the counterpart, Megapolar, has 2500 attack.  2000 defense is OKAY and the 700 defense, is equally troubling on the latter as it is for the attack on the former.  Both Monsters are Beast/Water types.  Mikpolar is Level 7, while Megapolar is Level 8.

As for Mikpolar:  Special Summons itself from your Hand, via Quick Effect during the Main Phase, by Tributing another Level 7 or higher face-up Monster from your Field.  After, you can only Special Summon Monsters with a Level (no problem just in that Turn) and if Special Summoned, you net a Theme Monster from your Deck to your Hand.  Save itself, of course, and each effect is once per Turn.  So no flooding with this guy, and being able to Special Summon and drop in Defense position is obviously a huge plus.  The Special Summon is decent, despite still requiring a Tribute, and the free Monster fetch is nice too.

Then Megapolar:  2500 attack for Level 8 is meh.  The first half of this card mirrors Mikpolar, from Quick Effect with how to Special Summon, as well as the Level only Special Summoning for the rest of the Turn.  Special Summoning this while you control another Theme Monster lets you destroy an opponent’s Magic/Trap card.  Said card is Targeted, and this is optional, which leaves lots of leeway in how to use this effect; as well as when.  Both effects remain once per Turn.  Definitely more powerful, with a destruction Effect, makes this card moderately better than its counterpart.

Rating:  Mikpolar:  2.75/5            Megapolar:  3.25/5

Art:

Mikpolar actually has better coloring and better art in my opinion:  4/5

Megapolar is still fun, but Mikpolar still strikes me as Water, Megapolar looks to      mechanical for me.  3.5/5
