Black Rose Dragon – #CSOC-EN039
1 Tuner + 1+ non-Tuner monsters – When this card is Synchro Summoned: You can destroy all cards on the field. Once per turn: You can banish 1 Plant monster from your GY, then target 1 Defense Position monster your opponent controls; change that target to face-up Attack Position, and if you do, its ATK becomes 0 until the end of this turn.

Hello Pojo Fans,
Black Rose Dragon is the Throwback Thursday choice for its own week, as was expected.
Another Synchro Monster that dominated the game back in the day. When priority existed, this card had its way with fields. Generic materials needed for the summon, you rarely saw it use its second ability which is pretty good considering you’re getting rid of a set monster and doing a direct attack all for the cost of a banished Plant monster. It was hard though, since the first effect nuked the whole field. This effect was overpowered long ago and a lifesaver to many, especially in the days of Plant Synchro with Debris Dragon and Dandylion. You’d have two tokens after the field was cleared, putting you at an advantage, especially if you hadn’t Normal Summoned or had a Special Summon left. Combine that with Spore being a thing and its no wonder why Plant Synchro was so strong. Even now, with all the negation possible, the expanded card pool, priority gone, Black Rose Dragon remains a staple if you want to play Synchro Monsters. With several monsters within its archetype helping to facilitate its summon and give you back stuff when used to summon it, Black Rose Dragon has endured the test of time and changing trends in the game.
Will always be one the best Synchro Monsters of all time.

Throwback Thursday for the Rose Dragon week of course was going to be the card that started it all: Black Rose Dragon.
Black Rose is a Level 7 FIRE Dragon Synchro with 2400 ATK and 1800 DEF. Okay stats on Level 7, FIRE is fun and Dragon is great. Generic Tuner and any non-Tuner(s) is what you like to see. When this card is Synchro Summoned, you can destroy all cards on the field. This alone is probably why you ran Black Rose Dragon once upon a time if you still don’t to this day. A field nuke at your disposal on a generic Level 7 Synchro is pretty strong. Helps clear the way for you to continue on to do what you want and getting rid of a ton of the opponent’s cards more than likely. The second effect is only useful in Plants, but once per turn you can banish a Plant from your graveyard to take a Defense Position monster the opponent controls and changes it to Attack Position and its ATK becomes 0 until the end of the turn, basically ensuring you can run over an opponent’s defensive monster and get some damage in while you’re at it. Black Rose is still a good Synchro to this day for its field wipe effect, and I’m sure the second effect comes up for Plants still. In Rose Dragons, having this is a must especially to help with the new Synchro if not for Black Rose’s own board wipe.

This I was certainly curious how many times I’d done before. Looks like this is review #4 for me. Initially in release back in 08, #10 in the Top 10 of 08 list in January of 09 and most recently #2 on the best Synchro list we did in 18. Black Rose, is a Fire/Dragon, Level 7, requiring a Tuner and 1+ non-Tuners to be Synchro Summoned. 2400 attack is fine (okay, but a card this big needed a minor drawback, and there it is) The Field Nuke upon Synchro Summon is just game changing. Obviously. I love so much the CAN destroy there, cause sometimes, you aren’t going to need to nuke the Field. A generic Summon with a free Field wipe has been reason enough for players, Plant or not, to play with this card for years. The latter Effect is deadly too, where removing a Plant from your Grave lets you switch an opponent’s Defense Monster to Attack and drop its attack to 0. All of a sudden that 2400 attack doesn’t seem like such an issue anymore, does it? Still a very sound card after so long, and can work well in Rose Dragons, Dragons, Plants, or even just as a nuke, if necessary.

Art: 4.75/5 This is gorgeous, and she’d get a 5 if we hadn’t looked at the most beautiful card in creation earlier this week.
