If I’ve been reading Bag of Holding right the past couple of years – and when you’re dealing with quasi-infinite extradimensional spaces, there’s always the possibility of error – then it is a very cute combo/synergy piece that works with surprising parts of Magic. Since discarding a card is part of using a cycling ability, it lets you essentially have your cake and eat it too: that is, you can get back the cards you cycled if you want to use them later on. It also stores anything you discard to activate an ability like Wild Mongrel’s, though if you’re in something like the old green-blue madness decks, you might actually not want that to happen! Even if you don’t get up to things like that, though, the bottom line might be that it’s a colorless card that lets you draw and discard. That’s far from nothing, and can sometimes help decks do things an opponent isn’t expecting.

Every good adventurer needs a bag to hold their stuff, and Bag of Holding is an effective way to store cards you don’t immediately need for later (and a bit of roundabout insurance against discard effects). If nothing else, it’s solid as a means to dig deeper for all colors, and that can help smooth out consistency a lot. It’s flavorful and charming, and while it never made a splash in Constructed in its last outing, it’s hardly an unwelcome card to see make a return.
