ZW – Leo Arms – #CBLZ-EN047
2 Level 5 monsters – Cannot attack directly. Once per turn: You can detach 1 material from this card; add 1 “ZW -” monster from your Deck to your hand. You can target 1 “Utopia” monster you control; equip this monster on the field to that target. It gains 3000 ATK. During your Battle Phase, if the equipped monster attacked this turn: You can send this Equip Card to the GY; the equipped monster can make a second attack on an opponent’s monster during this Battle Phase.

Hello Pojo Fans,
ZW – Leo Arms is the Throwback Thursday choice, and is one of two Xyz Monsters that are ZW cards.
Two Level 5 monsters isn’t hard to come by to Xyz Summon this monster, and being generic it can be used anywhere that runs them. Unable to attack directly…big restriction that hurts it. ZW – monster search for a detached material helps get to your Main Deck monsters that work alongside “Utopia” monsters. Attaching to a “Utopia” monster is the best thing for this card. Boosting the attached monster by 3000ATK is OTK territory. Detach this during the Battle Phase to give your “Utopia” monster a second attack in the Battle Phase could produce the previously-mentioned OTK shot if it is a direct attack. Yesterdays card: Ultimate Leo Utopia Ray can attach this directly to itself and suddenly have its negation/shrink ability online as well as boost itself to 5500ATK. Not needing to detach to activate the negation/shrink ability, that monster could activate the effect and smash for major damage before detaching this to get a clear 2500ATK, though that would leave it without a ZW for it’s negation and shrink next turn so if using this that way you’d best make sure there isn’t a next turn.
ZW – Leo Arms is best used as all ZW monsters are used; attaching to Utopia monsters.

We going back to the original ZW Xyz this week for Throwback Thursday by looking at ZW – Leo Arms.
Leo Arms is a Rank 5 LIGHT Beast with 3000 ATK and 1200 DEF. Strong ATK on a Rank 5, LIGHT is very good, and Beast is nice. 2 Level 5s summons this, which probably doesn’t happen much in regular Utopia anymore with their emphasis on Level 4 monsters, but the RUM from Lighting Overdrive can bring this out if you aren’t prioritizing Ultimate Leo Utopia Ray. This cannot attack directly, which is a bummer with that 3000 ATK. You get a soft once per turn to detach a material from this to search for any ZW monster from the Deck, so nice to ensure you can get any of the ZW cards you want equipped to your Utopia another way. You can also target a Utopia monster you control and equip it with this for a 3000 ATK boost, which is pretty nice to turn most Utopias into 5500 ATK bodies. Also during your Battle Phase where the equipped monster attacked this turn, you can send this equipped card to grave to let that monster make a second attack on an opponent’s monster during that Battle Phase, which is good to take care of two birds with one stone, even if you got to sacrifice that 3000 ATK boost for the second attack, though it’s fine if your Utopia at least has another ZW equipped. Honestly, I don’t expect many players to summon Leo Arms anymore considering the new Utopia Xyzs can just equip the ZWs from Deck to themselves, but this might be fine to have in the Extra Deck anyways since yesterday’s card can still equip this from the Extra Deck to itself if you aren’t going for Dragonic Halaberd instead. Not great, but okay overall.

You know, if this guy could attack directly, he’d be pretty damn good. Just saying. ZW Leo Arms is also Rank 5, this time Light/Beast (fine enough) with 3000 attack (1200 defense yuck) and needing any 2 generic Level 5 Monsters for XYZ Summoning. As mentioned, the no direct attack is a detriment, but I guess that’s what we get for 3000 attack on a lower Rank XYZ. Detaching a Material, (once a turn), let’s you add any ZW from your Deck to your Hand. Nice, honest 1-for-1, and fetching whatever you want is always terrific. Targeting and Equipping to a Utopia Monster grants the latter 3000 attack. So that should be at least 5500 attack, could easily be 6000 or more, so that can be huge. Lastly, if the Monster this is Equipped to attacked in the Turn, you can Unequip this for that card to attack a second time…on an opponent’s Monster. That’s niche, and could help you on occasion, but it’s likely there just for show. Really all you’re getting from this is the card initially, and maybe one high attack. Sure, that attack could win you the game, and just the same, occasionally it may, but this guy just doesn’t quite make the mark.

It wouldn’t be Zexal support without Rank-Up-Magic, bringing us to today’s card: Hyper Rank-Up-Magic Utopiforce, a normal spell. It’s pretty easy to search through ZS- Ascended Sage and Zexal Construction, so getting to it isn’t too much trouble. Both effects are hard once per turn. By targeting a level 9 or lower Utopia XYZ monster, which could be anything from the regular Number 39: Utopia to most of its evolved forms, you can XYZ summon a rank 10 or higher Utopia or Utopic monster from your extra deck using it as material, taking all of its XYZ materials as well. As a bonus, if you special summon an XYZ monster by the effect of a rank 10 or higher Utopia or Utopic monster, you can attach this card to it as an XYZ material. The pool of rank 10 Utopias is rather small, but you can’t really go wrong with any of them. Number 93: Utopia Kaiser is the second best choice if you want to make the most of this card’s graveyard effect, though its actual effect is rather mediocre and isn’t really useful. Number XX: Utopic Dark Infinity and Number 99: Utopic Dragon are both beatsticks with 4000 attack, so even though special summoning monsters through them is a bit of a pain (even moreso for Dark Infinity), they’re still somewhat useful. The best use of Utopiforce is a new monster we’ll discuss later this week, which can spit out a Number monster without negating its effects with little effort while also taking advantage of the graveyard effect. Overall a very solid Utopia card.
