Icejade Acti – #BODE-EN008
If this card is Normal or Special Summoned: You can send 1 WATER monster from your hand to the GY; draw 1 card. If a face-up WATER monster(s) you control is destroyed by battle or card effect, while this card is in your GY: You can banish this card; Special Summon 1 “Icejade” monster from your hand or GY, except “Icejade Acti”. You can only use each effect of “Icejade Acti” once per turn.

You’re as cold as ice! (I thought about Ice, Ice Baby here but went differently) but Happy Valentine’s Day (or single’s awareness day, or piss off, it’s just another Monday day) but it’s Icejade week, and we open with Acti. Level 4, Water/Aqua, craptacular atk/def match at 1000. But the game has taught us that (usually) low stats on a Level 4 means it does things. Hopefully great things.
Normal OR Special Summon gives the 1-for-1 option to discard a Water Monster to earn a Draw from your Deck. Fueling your Grave, certainly in Water, is awesome, plus you gain back the card in your Hand, so we’re riding that wave highly (Alex made another funny!). If one (or more) of your face-up Water Monsters are destroyed via Battle or Card Effect while this resides in your Graveyard, you can Special Summon any Theme Monster from your Hand or Grave, other than herself, by removing herself from play.
Another nice, simple, honest 1-for-1 there. Removing this for a Special Summoned replacement is great. Water doesn’t usually remove a LOT, but I don’t see that as a terrible detriment given how good this card is, and the scope of everything it does as a whole. The atk/def still are crap, but this likely won’t be on your Field long enough for that to matter.

Valentine’s Week is here and we will take a look at the Icejade ladies throughout starting with Icejade Acti.
Acti is a Level 4 WATER Aqua with 1000 ATK and DEF, so very paltry stats for a Level 4, but a good Type and Attribute we’ll see on all the Icejades, and also Level 4 WATER means Bahamut Shark, which is always a plus. Upon Normal or Special Summon, you can send any WATER monster from hand to grave for a draw, which is a cost that will trigger the effect of Atlanteans, so that’s immediately an option and a good one at that with Dragoons especially. Free draws and potential plusses from the card you discarded is nice to be able to access. Other effect triggers upon destruction of a WATER monster(s) you control (doesn’t matter who destroys them), letting you banish this card from the graveayrd to summon an Icejade from your hand or graveyard besides Acti, which can really be nice with the new Icejade cards from Battle of Chaos we’ll review probably in April or May since now they got their own win condition you can summon from this. You of course prefer the grave, but having access to the hand when you can is fine as well. Each effect is a hard once per turn, pretty fair and expected. Acti alone might not be an insane card, but she’s pretty decent like the other Icejades. Nothing mind boggling for a Deck to have, but a good card nonetheless.

Art: 3.5/5 “Icejade” but I kinda see more slime from these first few cards.

Love is in the air today, but dueling is still the top priority! This week covers the Icejade archetype (funnily enough we got their Battle of Chaos support just now in TCG) introduced in Burst of Destiny. Their first card is Icejade Acti, a level 4 WATER aqua monster. It has a middling stat spread of 1000 attack and defense, which is rather poor for a level 4, so it probably won’t be sticking around very long.
Both effects of Acti are hard once per turn, which is to be expected. Acti’s first effect allows you to send a WATER monster from your hand to the graveyard and draw one card if it’s normal or special summoned. Because of how WATER decks typically play, discarding is usually a good thing (see: Atlantean Dragoons), so the draw is a nice bonus. Acti itself doesn’t really start any combos though, which is unfortunate. Acti’s second effect is shared by all first wave Icejades and is a little weird; if one of your face-up WATER monsters is destroyed by battle or card effect while Acti is in the graveyard, you can banish Acti to special summon an Icejade from your hand or graveyard except itself. Because Icejades lack in-house destruction, you’ll have to rely on outside cards like True King Bahrastos, the Fathomer or Dino cards to get any combo mileage with this effect; battle floaters are simply too slow for modern Yugioh, not to mention that banishing it without a method of recovery means you’ll probably run out of resources quickly. Overall a rough start for Icejades, but surely they will get better.

Art: 4.25/5 At last, Konami is dipping into the slime girl (kinda) market.
