Starmie from Sword & Shield Fusion Strike is another example of a card that can achieve OHKOs, but requires a lot of investment to pull through, something too much investment that it affects how certain decks are built. Although it is a Rapid Strike card, I don’t think extra attack options – such as Matchless Mealstrom, Gravdrop, or Meteor – won’t help as much.

Multishot Star is Starmie’s only attack, costing only a single Water energy. This attacks states that you have to discard all water energies attached to this Pokemon. Then, for each energy you’ve discarded in this way, choose one of your opponent’s Pokemon and do 30 damage to it. You can choose the same Pokemon more than once. Unfortunately, this attack’s damage isn’t affected by Weakness or Resistance. Looking at this attack, Multishot Star seems pretty flexible as you can pick even smaller targets to nab a KO. When it comes to OHKOing the beefiest Pokemon based on printed HP scores, then you need to discard 12 Energies from Starmie and target that Pokemon 12 times. This would have been way too much without any external help.

Though it doesn’t have to require that much investment. Telescopic Sight from Sword & Shield Vivid Voltage is a Pokemon Tool card which helps your Pokemon deal 30 extra damage to your opponent’s Benched Pokemon that are Pokemon-GX or Pokemon-V. Since Multishot Star can let you choose multiple targets instead of being a single target, that means each instance of you targeting a Benched Pokemon-V means doing sixty damage for each Water energy discarded; you only need six energies for the OHKO. Still, you would be only doing 30 damage against an Active Pokemon-V or any baseline Pokemon.

While Starmie would have some potential of pulling off such feats with the help of Frosmoth’s Ice Dance to load lots of Water Energies to your Benched Starmie, the tradeoff is that there is a Pokemon in the upcoming set that protects their Benched Pokemon from damage, meaning that Starmie would once again be requiring as much investment as before. Until that time comes, Starmie will only have about a month’s worth of fame if players are able to make it work.
