Ties of the Brethren – #GRCR-EN053
Pay 2000 LP, then target 1 Level 4 or lower monster you control; for the rest of this turn after this card resolves, you cannot Special Summon monsters, also Special Summon 2 monsters from your Deck, with the same Type, Attribute, and Level as that monster, but with different names from each other and that monster. You cannot conduct your Battle Phase the turn you activate this card.

Hello Pojo Fans,
Ties of the Brethren was an easy choice for Throwback Thursday this week.
Good first-turn card for many archetypes that don’t need to hit the Extra Deck immediately, but also run the same Type and Attribute, while having many monsters of the same level. Satellarknight were an archetype back in the day that used this card, along with Majespecter and Musketeer. While anything Level 4 or below can be a target at the start of the effect, the lockout of more Special Summoning is what stops this card from being in almost any deck in the game. Players want access to the Extra Deck, especially if they go first. Exosister don’t need to go to the Extra Deck, especially if they know the opponent is using grave-based strategies. 2000LP is decently stiff, even first turn, but it can be managed, especially if those monsters summoned with Ties can trigger effects to get you further along even without your Extra Deck.
Ties of The Brethren alongside something like Pax or an active Vadis could enable you to get to all four of your Exosister Xyz Monsters, but you’d have to wait to get there. Ties still stand as a good card in the right archetype.

Throwback Thursday for this week is yet another card to help you get to Exosisters: Ties of the Brethren.
Ties of the Brethren is a Normal Spell that lets you pay 2000 LP to target a Level 4 or lower monster you control, you cannot Special Summon for the rest of the turn after this resolves, but you do get to Special Summon 2 monsters with different names from each other and the targeted monster from the Deck just as long as they both match the Type, Attribute, and Level of the original target, and also you cannot conduct your Battle Phase the turn you use this card. Getting 2 monsters from Deck seems pretty good in a Deck that doesn’t really want to use their monsters for Extra Deck plays and just wants them on the board during the opponent’s turn. It’d be good in Exosisters if you could guarantee the opponent would trigger their second effects to summon the archetypal Xyzs on the opponent’s turn, but so far we can’t guarantee that and the sisters are small enough to be destroyed by nearly anything in battle. This is still a great card. Rock Stun loves to be able to have 3 of the Koa’ki Meirus on field for negation or a Fossil Dyna to stop Special Summons. In Exosisters, I don’t think I’d say this is mandatory.

Throwback Thursday features yet another reprint in Grand Creators, the normal spell Ties of the Brethren. By paying a small chunk of 2000 LP, you can target a level 4 or lower monster you control and special summon 2 monsters from your deck with the same type, attribute, and level with the same name, notably without negating their effects. As a consequence, you can’t battle the same turn, though that’s meaningless on turn 1 and the advantage is worth it. On paper, it looks like a broken extender for pretty much any homogeneous deck; Bujin, Majespecter, Utopia, and, of course, Exosister come to mind. You could even use this on Denko Sekka to summon Thunder King Rai-oh and Lightning Rod Lord for a hilarious, though inconsistent, lock. While this card does have a powerful effect, it’s usage is solely limited to extending, since it needs a monster on the field to be activated in the first place. A well-built deck shouldn’t brick with it often, but it could happen, so it’s best used in monster-heavy decks; ironically, I can’t see it being too useful in Exosisters considering they only have 4 main deck monsters, though adding in a Dogmatika package certainly makes this card more attractive. Overall it’s not nearly as broken as it looks, but the decks that can use it use it well.

Ties of the Brethern is a card that can help you with your Exosisters, as well as plenty of other Themes. You Target a Level 4 or below Monster of yours and Special Summon 2 more Monsters from your Deck. Said Monsters have to have the same Type, Attribute, and Level as the one you Target. But, the Monsters have to be differently named, so even if you’re running 3 of whatever you originally Target, you can’t bring the other 2 out with this. But, as mentioned in the open, that does help you quite well with Exosisters, even just in what we’ve reviewed this week so far. You aren’t allowed to Special Summon for the rest of the Turn, outside the two this card grants you. I get this easily opens up your Extra Deck, but I think maybe limiting this to one per Turn might have been enough. It’s good, sure, but it’s not THAT good. I suppose in lieu of the ‘can only activate one of these a Turn’ text, we got stuck with ‘you cannot conduct your Battle Phase the Turn you activate this card’. Much worse, in my opinion, as that gives your opponent a Turn to deal with whatever you drop to the Field with this. Not at all a bad card, but there are certainly cards out there (although not necessarily for the Theme, but generally speaking) that do this (and more) better.
