Hello Pojo Fans,

Libromancer Doombroker is the Ritual Monster we choose to end the week on.

Level 6, and able to be summoned using just one Libromancer monster, Doombroker has good stats for being just a generic Level 6 Ritual Monster. If you use monster(s) on the field you get the added ability of being able to attack directly, something not to scoff at for a 2500ATK monster that only needs one Libromancer monster to Special Summon itself.

In addition to the attack directly ability, Doombroker is your trap searcher for the deck by just existing on the field each turn. Those two effects Doombroker has make is already a great monster for the archetype and a pretty good generic Ritual to use in another Ritual-centric deck. The final effect Doombroker has gives it some field control by cycling back a face-up monster your opponent controls when you do battle damage.

First and third effects tie in together and all of these effects don’t require costs, easy to summon, pretty high ATK, Doombroker has a lot going for it in and outside the archetype, especially being a DARK monster.

At long last, we end the week with one of the two Libromancer Rituals, and probably the better of the two with Libromancer Doombroker.

Doombroker is a Level 6 DARK Fiend Ritual with 2500 ATK and 2000 DEF. Nice stats on Level 6, plus a good combo of DARK and Fiend to have. You can Ritual Summon this with any Libromancer card, as they actually currently do have multiple ways to Ritual Summon this. If this card is Ritual Summoned using a monster(s) on field, it can attack directly. You do seem likely to Ritual Summon this using monsters on field as they do help setup your Ritual Summons to begin with at least, but it’s a bonus, and not the biggest loss if you don’t use a monster on board. The remaining effects of this card are a hard once per turn. First one activating during your Main Phase, letting you set a Libromancer Trap directly from your Deck. So right now it’s just Intervention and jury is still out as to if we get other options for this that are worthwhile, but at least there’s a way to get to your disruption in this Deck. Second effect triggers upon inflicting battle damage to the opponent, letting you target a face-up monster they control and shuffling it into the Deck, giving you more of a reason at least to try and get its effect to attack directly. Doombroker is a decent boss monster for this archetype overall and probably what you want to focus on as he seems to be the main win condition for this archetype. Just hope wave two of support gives us more win conditions than just this.

Art: 5/5 Looks sicker on his own card than Intervention at least.

This guy is good, he’s only going to get better as the Libro card pool increases, but the one Effect particularly does get hindered by it.  Doombroker is a Level 6, Dark/Fiend (fantastic) with 2500 atk (also great, and 2000 def).  Can be Ritual Summoned with a Theme card, as one would expect, appropriately so.  Can attack directly with that 2500 atk if you used a Monster(s) from the Field for Ritual Summon…so I’m going to suggest that you do that.  Can Set a Theme Trap once per Turn during your Main Phase…you all ready know what that HAS to be right now, your opponent SHOULD know whether they’re playing this or not, even passively what that is.  They may play in to or around it, or straight up not know and not care.  But be aware of the prior, as it could Effect your strategy as well.  Targeting and Shuffling an opponent’s (face-up) Monster back to their Deck when you inflict Battle Damage is something.  Targeting isn’t great, but most things do, so no huge criticism there.  The direct attack Effect should make this easier for you, AND, that’s not once per Turn, so that’s fun.  He’s a solid boss, without being overpowered or anything.  Quite disruptive though.

Finishing the week is Libromancer’s other boss (we don’t talk about their first boss), Libromancer Doombroker, a level 6 DARK fiend ritual monster. As it is less than level 7, it’s a viable target for Preparation of Rites, and conveniently, level 6 is a perfect level for Impcantation Talismandra and Diviner of the Herald after sending Herald of the Arc Light. For a level 6 monster, it has a pretty good attack of 2500 and a passable defense of 2000.

Doombroker’s summoning spell is simply listed as any Libromancer card, but currently, the only way to summon it outside of generic methods is Libromancer First Appearance. If you summoned it using a monster on the field, it can attack directly; as this isn’t once per copy, multiple Doombrokers can deal some hefty (though usually not lethal) damage, though that would require multiple level 6 fodders on the field. Both of Doombroker’s other effects are a hard once per turn, however; during you main phase, you can set any Libromancer trap directly to your field from your deck. Currently, you have no choice other than Libromancer Intervention, which we already covered, but that’s good since Intervention is a decently strong omni negate. Doombroker’s other effect ties nicely into its first effect, allowing you to target and shuffle one of your opponent’s face up monsters if it inflicts battle damage. This can get rid of pretty much any monster without targeting protection since shuffle protection is very rare, to the point where I can’t even think of any! Though targeting protection is common so it’s not too strong. As a pointed out, Doombroker is deceptively easy to access through Impcantations, Diviner of the Heralds, and in-archetype resources, so while Libromancers might not have much power right now, they do have a great base to work with, thanks to Doombroker.

We’re ending off Libromancer week with the bigger of the 2 boss monsters for the archetype: Doombroker (killer name, by the way). He’s a level 7 ritual monster with 2500 ATK. He also comes packed with multiple effects.

Once per Turn, he can Set a “Libromancer” Trap straight from Deck. We already reviewed a Libromancer Trap earlier this week, so you can take a look at that to figure out what this guy can grab. It’s nice to be able to search an in-archetype Trap, but I kinda wish it also grabbed Spells. Either that, or had the stipulation the Set Trap could be activated this Turn. Otherwise, the card you fetch is just a sitting duck (assuming your opponent has some form of spell/trap removal at Quick Speed).

Besides that, Doombroker has a nifty way of dealing with monsters. If he deals Battle Damage, he can Target a face up monster and Shuffle it into the Deck. Shuffling away is one of the best forms of removal, not just because most cards don’t have protection against it, but also because it thickens your opponent’s deck just a smidge.

The only problem with this effect of Doombroker is that the effect does Target which only becomes more and more problematic as Targeting protection becomes the norm. Getting rid of Face Up monsters only doesn’t really matter too much, though.

But wait, there’s more! Doombroker’s final effect ties into his previous one. In order to help him sink in Battle Damage, he has a way of attacking directly! All you need to do is Ritual Summon him using at least a monster on the Field.

This is hardly a stipulation at all considering the Libromancers possess innate Special Summoning conditions to get them onto the Field. I don’t even know why they bothered with this mechanic unless it was actually hard to get Libromancers on the Field.

In my opinion, the Libromancers should have functioned a little more like Salamangreats in the sense that you should have gotten their bonus Ritual effects by tributing Ritual Monsters. But that’s just me.

Overall, I really like this guy. I don’t think he’s a “boss level” card. Like, what’s the point of running Libromancer when Doombroker is the best card you’ve got? It’s a fun deck to play, so I guess it has that going for it.

Advanced Rating – 3.5/5
Art – 4.5/5 (I never saw it comiiiiiiiiing…anyone else get Persona 5 Joker vibes from this guy?)
