This is an updated version of Mirror Gallery, from Champions of Kamigawa, and it takes it to the next level. We don’t commonly think of legendary creatures as needing global power and toughness boosts, but if you have a large number of medium-sized creatures, it can help. There are also a few who specifically benefit from the same-name boost, starting with the Brothers Yamazaki who we reviewed a while ago. The mid-sized legend tribal deck might be more fun than powerful in constructed, though it could lead to some crazy game states and great stories in casual play. It’s unfortunate that it doesn’t work as effectively in Commander, as the main way to get copies of legendary creatures there is with tokens; still the effect is cool enough to make people want to build a deck for it. I’m glad Commander exists and is popular, but other ways to play can be fun too.

Commander [EDH]: 2/5
An upgrade over the original Mirror Gallery, Mirror Box is an interesting effect that both plays well with a critical mass of legendary creatures and in decks with a lot of the same creature (or just a bunch of clone effects); a sort of Coat of Arms for your pile of Relentless Rats sounds fun, given how they buff each other already! Of note is that this also plays acceptably with creatures that copy themselves; the tokens won’t have the buff, but the original (like Pack Rat) will! There’s a lot of quirky, weird things to be done with this spell, and while it’s not for every deck, an affordable mana cost means that even this just being a buff to your legendary creatures isn’t so bad.
Constructed: 3.5 (a bit weird, but there might be a format where this shines)
Casual: 5
Limited: 3.75
Multiplayer: 3.25
Commander [EDH]: 4 (probably better than it initially looks in Commander if you build around it; even without, a +1/+1 to most of your Commanders isn’t so bad)
