I’ve never been a big fan of reminder text, but I appreciate it much more now that phasing is back. Apparently I never properly learned around how it actually works! Casting this for free is going to be pretty costly in terms of cards, though it might not matter if it gets all the blockers out of the way at the right time. Sometimes saving your own creatures will come up too; I feel like the alternate cost might be less relevant there, since it’s well within the bounds of reasonable to hold up 1U to protect a key creature. Now, all we need is some kind of card that cares about phasing and this might be a combo card, too . . .

March of Swirling Mist is an interesting beast of a spell, letting you phase things either offensively or defensively as long as you have one blue mana and resources to spare otherwise. While the most “natural” plan is to use this to make opponents’ creatures never connect, you can protect your own creatures in a pinch, do both in the same spell, or even enable an alpha strike then and there. It’s pretty flexible, and even if you need to pay mana, 1U to get rid of a creature (or protect one) for a turn cycle isn’t so bad, Spells that do a lot are always worth seeking out, and while it won’t remove things permanently, it will keep them from having all the time they need to shine.
