Crystal Beast Rainbow Dragon – #GFP2-EN001

If this face-up card is destroyed in a Monster Zone, you can place it face-up in your Spell & Trap Zone as a Continuous Spell, instead of sending it to the GY. You can only use each of the following effects of “Crystal Beast Rainbow Dragon” once per turn. When an attack is declared involving a “Crystal Beast” monster: You can Special Summon this card from your hand. You can banish this card treated as a Continuous Spell; Special Summon 1 Level 4 or lower “Crystal Beast” monster from your Deck, but negate its effects, and if you do, add 1 “Ultimate Crystal” monster from your Deck to your hand.

As we seem to be getting a ton of Crystal Beast support by the end of the year, why not look at the new Crystal Beast card we recently got: Crystal Beast Rainbow Dragon.

CBRD is a Level 8 LIGHT Dragon with 3000 ATK and 0 DEF. A great ATK stat to have, LIGHT is good to work with, and Dragon is the best type in the game. Your first effect here is one you see on all the Crystal Beasts, where upon destruction it can go to your Spell & Trap Zone as a Continuous Spell instead of going to the graveyard, which is the Crystal Beast gimmick. All the remaining effects are a hard once per turn, something not on other Crystal Beasts. First part lets you Special Summon this from the hand when an attack is declared involving a Crystal Beast, helping make sure you don’t have to Tribute Summon this in a Deck that doesn’t want to be Tribute Summoning. Second effect lets you banish this as a Continuous Spell to summon any Level 4 or lower Crystal Beast from the Deck with its effects negated and then you can search for an Ultimate Crystal monster. First part getting a Crystal Beast from Deck at least helps get a name for Rainbow Dragon, though losing the monster’s effects means you can’t make it a Continuous Spell upon destruction nor get the good effects of Ruby Carbuncle or Sapphire Pegasus. Having to search the Ultimate Crystal monster to use this effect is fine, even if there are only two options in the Main Deck still with Rainbow Dragon and Rainbow Dark Dragon, and you’re most likely running the regular Rainbow Dragon in Crystal Beasts. It’s a fine support card for Crystal Beasts, finally giving the archetype another monster that’s a Crystal Beast by name to run for Rainbow Dragon, and it’s easily better than 5 of the 7 Crystal Beasts we already had.

Advanced Rating: 3.5/5

Art: 4/5 It’s somewhat of a baby Rainbow Dragon I guess, was hoping for something else to give it more of a distitnct look.

Saturday brings us Crystal Beast Rainbow Dragon.  Level 8, Light/Dragon (both amazing, of course) 3000 atk instead of the 4000 of most of his family, and still the same 0 defense.  So when destroyed, you have the option, in true Crystal Beast manner, to put  it in your Magic/Trap Zone, as a Continuous Magic, instead of letting it go to the Graveyard.  This actually does help with the original Rainbow Dragon, as well as most of the others who do things of that nature.  Or, I should say, play off that, as it can still end up being Tribute Fodder in the Theme.  Next, are two Effects which can be used Once per Turn.  This card can be Special Summoned from your Hand when an attack involving a Crystal Beast happens.  Being able to drop a 3000 body to the Field that easily is ridiculous, but it does really help the playability of this card.  You can also remove this from play while it’s being counted as a Continuous Magic, and then Special Summon a Level 4 or lower Crystal Beast from your Deck.  Special Summoning from the Deck is the BEST kind of Special Summoning, and even though the Monster loses its Effect(s) you do have the potential to +1 of this Effect as well.  If you’re successful in Special Summoning that Monster, you get to also add an Ultimate Crystal Monster from your Deck to your Hand.  This would include the original Rainbow Dragon, Rainbow Dark Dragon, Rainbow Dragon Overdrive, and Rainbow Overdragon.  Honestly, I’d like to see a Deck trying to run all that, cause I don’t think running more than 1-2 (and I’d run the latter two together if I were at all, and the Dark doesn’t exactly mesh well with his original counterpart, but this does with the latter two at the very least).  Anyway, it’s still an extra card when you’re all ready going 1-for-1, so it’s hard to be upset about that.

Art:  3/5  Definitely not the most…pretty or elegant of this family’s art
