Exosisters Magnifica – #DIFO-EN046
2 Rank 4 “Exosister” Xyz Monsters – Must be Xyz Summoned with the above materials. This card can make a second attack during each Battle Phase. Once per turn (Quick Effect): You can detach 1 material from this card; banish 1 card your opponent controls. When your opponent activates a card or effect (Quick Effect): You can return 1 Xyz Monster you own attached to this card to your Extra Deck, then you can Special Summon that monster from your Extra Deck, by using this card you control as material. (This is treated as an Xyz Summon. Transfer this card’s materials to the Summoned monster.)

Hello Pojo Fans,
Exosisters Magnifica took a bit for us to review, but here they are to finish up our week.
Two Rank 4 Exosister Xyz Monsters sounds like a high price, but these are Exosister we’re talking about, the Main Deck monsters spam the field and they can Special Summon an Xyz Exosister when your opponent moves a card out of their grave, so getting your two Rank 4 Exosister monsters isn’t tough. Strong ATK/DEF for a Rank 8 that is not the conventional Rank 8.
Two attacks during each Battle Phase doubles up your kill power or grants a shot at direct damage, or the best scenario: double direct damage. 1-for-1 banish ability via detaching is a solid spot removal for a high Xyz, and it being a Quick Effect makes it likely you’ll get two banishes out of Magnifica. The response effect of Magnifica works best after you’ve used up her materials. Trade a Magnifica that has no more materials attached for a different Exosister Xyz that is live and has a material to detach. Best ones are Asophiel that can pop a monster back to the hand and Mikailis who can banish. Gibrine can negate an effect monster, but you are Xyz Summoning her off of Magnifica in response to an effect, so her effect may be too late to be useful.
Magnifica on her own is a great monster that can be summoned after you use up the Xyz materials on your other Exosister Xyz Monsters. She can essentially undo her summon and get you back an Xyz that will be live. The lack of negation on that response effect is a balance, but it would help the archetype even more had Magnifica negated in response and then did her Xyz Summon using herself as material.

We covered the new cards for P.U.N.K. and Adventurer, now let’s look at Exosister’s new boss monster to end the week: Exosisters Magnifica.
Magnifica is a Rank 8 LIGHT Warrior Xyz with 2800 ATK and DEF. Great stats overall, LIGHT is always a good Attribute, and being a Warrior has benefits. The summoning conditions are any 2 Rank 4 Exosister Xyz Monsters, cause there are no Level 8s in Exosisters and we aren’t going to force any into the archetype. Instead you get a boss monster that’s at least easy to summon in the Deck. It must be Xyz Summoned with the above materials, no cheating this out. It can also make a second attack during each Battle Phase, which can be scary on a 2800 body. First effect you can activate is a soft once per turn and a Quick Effect to detach a material from this card to banish a card the opponent controls, which is really good removal to have on a card that can do it more than once. Second effect is another Quick Effect that triggers when the opponent activates a card or effect, letting you return an Xyz Monster you own that’s attached to this back to the Extra Deck to immediately Xyz Summon that monster by using this as material, which helps you have another way to trigger the effects the Exosister Xyzs have the turn they’re summoned, plus it’s another potential banish with Mikailis if you summon it off this. Magnificia is a great card to boost Exosisters, and upon the Power of the Elements support, you might be able to expect to see this pretty often, especially when we enter a Splight and Tearalaments meta.

Shifting to XYZ as well as Exosisters to close the week, we have Exosisters Magnifica (and the art certainly is). Rank 8, Light/Warrior, 2800 atk/def make this card quite formidable to start. Needing specifically two Rank 4 Theme XYZ Monsters to bring out (which actually is stupid easy in the Theme) and even states MUST be XYZ Summoned with said Materials. So, the card can make two attacks during the Battle Phase, which is always incredible, and this isn’t BLS-EotB two attacks where they have to follow one another, this is at your discretion, making the Effect all the more powerful. A Quick Effect (once per Turn) lets you discard a Material to remove an opponent’s card from play…amazing! That’s an honest, and likely deadly 1-for-1 as this as it’s any card, any position, so that’s winning for you. Yet another Quick Effect lets your remove an XYZ Monster/Material from this card and return it to your Extra Deck to then Special Summon that card, but add this card to it as XYZ Material. So this card returns the favor of its fairly strict, specific Summon requirement by cycling it and its Material to one who sacrificed itself for this. I can’t honestly say I don’t like that either (and rinse and repeat y’all). It’s a quick, powerful, disruptive card, and hits the right spots.

Closing up the week is the new boss monster for an archetype that TCG players are keeping a close eye on in anticipation of Power of the Elements. Exosisters Magnifica is the new boss for the Exosister archetype, being a rank 8 LIGHT Warrior Xyz monster with a clean 2800 attack and defense, which aren’t too high but decent enough for a boss monster (you can always use Exosister Gibrine if you need a bit more oomph). Magnifica uniquely must be Xyz summoned using 2 rank 4 Exosisters, which makes sense since they currently have no level 8 monsters at all. Because of how this summon works, much like Number F0: Utopic Draco Future, it doesn’t inherit all of the Xyz materials when summoned, which is a bummer but understandable.
Magnifica can make two attacks during each Battle Phase, so it’s a fairly powerful beater and helps Exosisters push for OTKs. Magnifica’s first activated effect is a soft once per turn Quick effect, allowing you detach an Xyz material to banish one of your opponent’s cards. It’s simple but straightforward disruption and removal, and depending on the matchup, banishing a card can ruin entire combos on its own. Magnifica’s other effect is not once per turn, but it’s so hard to pull off multiple times it doesn’t really need to be; if you opponent activates a card or effect, you can return one of Magnifica’s Xyz materials (which 99% of the time should be an Exosister Xyz) back to the Extra Deck then Xyz summon it using Magnifica itself as an Xyz material. If you’re dueling against a Graveyard-heavy deck, tagging out into Exosister Asophiel or Exosister Kapistell can completely ruin their day. Otherwise, Exosister Mikailis is a generally good choice for an additional banish. With the relative lack of staying power, it makes sense that Magnifica doesn’t have protection, but that does mean you should be wary of boardbreakers and other backrow. As of the current TCG card pool, Magnifica still competes with Utopic Draco Future, which has a powerful negate along with protection, though it lacks the same offensive power and being able to tag out into another Exosister Xyz monster can be key in some matchups. However, once the Power of the Elements support arrives to TCG, Magnifica will be the better choice, full stop!

Art: 4.5/5 Now there’s a magical girl duo if I’ve ever seen one.
I feel bad because I LOVE the Exosister archetype from a thematic standpoint. Battling nuns that have a magical girl flair is totally up my alley…but I just don’t like their gameplay style.
Regardless, I’m glad they’re getting more support. Today’s review is of Magnifica, a Rank 8 monster who can be summoned by using 2 Rank 4 “Exosister” monsters. That’s pretty neat. It’s kind of like Synchro Summoning…but it’s XYZ Summoning.
Stat-wise, Magnifica isn’t too bad. 2800 ATK and DEF means she’s strong no matter which mode she’s in. As a Quick Effect, you can detach a material and Banish a card your opponent controls. This is really amazing as it doesn’t target and doesn’t limit you to just picking monsters.
Her other effect bring up another interesting gameplay gimmick. Whenever you opponent activates a card or effect, you can essentially swap your stack of monsters that make up Magnifica around so that a different one is now in play. I worded it a little differently, but that’s sort of how I think about this effect.
This is great because most Exosister monsters possess effects that respond to what your Opponent is doing – especially on their Turn.
Overall, this is really solid for the strategy. Like with many of these side-set archetypes, they’re not going to be competitively viable, but that’s OK. There is plenty more to cards than just what’s being played in tournaments.
