Pendulum Effect – Unless you have a “Performapal” card in your other Pendulum Zone, this card’s Pendulum Scale becomes 4. During your Main Phase, if this card was activated this turn: You can add 1 Level 4 or lower “Performapal” monster from your Deck to your hand. You can only use this effect of “Performapal Monkeyboard” once per turn.
Monster Effect = You can discard this card; reveal 1 “Performapal” or “Odd-Eyes” monster in your hand, and if you do, reduce the Levels of monsters in your hand with that name by 1 for the rest of this turn (even after they are Summoned/Set).

Performapal Monkeyboard is our Throwback Thursday choice and was once hung up on the ban list.
Monekyboard has a scale of one, Level 6, 1000/2400 ATK/DEF. That scale though can become four if you don’t have a Performapal in the zone alongside Monekyboard. Activate it as a Pendulum Scale and you get a RoTA for Performapal. Once per turn in case you can bounce it back and play it again to complete your scales. Good search that has many targets, namely Pendulum Sorcerer and Skullcrobat Joker, Joker can get Sorcerer, the ensuing Pendulum Summon will summon Sorcerer, who then blows up Monekyboard and your other Pendulum Zone scale and gets you two different Performapal options…all this off Monekyboard searching.
As a monster, Monekyboard isn’t getting Normal Summoned often. 1000ATK is very low for a Level 6, feels like its stats should be switched. Discarding Moneyboard to show a Performapal or Odd-Eyes in your hand only to drop its Level by one for the turn feels pretty useless. You’re losing a card, showing your opponent a card just to drop its Level by one for the turn. You’ll summon it this turn most likely, unless you were just trying to get Monekyboard into the grave.
Much better as a Pendulum Scale than a monster. There’s a reason why it got banned and is still Limited. Despite the scale adjusting, Monekyboard is an instant search for Performapal and will get you to your best Performapal monsters.

Throwback Thursday this week is the last of the recent F/L List changes we’ll cover for now, and finally gets us a good support card for the Performapal Deck: Performapal Monkeyboard.
Monkeyboard is a Level 6 Scale 1 EARTH Beast Pendulum with 1000 ATK and 2400 DEF. A good DEF stat at least, and the combo of EARTH and Beast aren’t bad. Scale 1 is a good low number as well. Pendulum Effect triggers the turn it was activated to the Pendulum Zone, letting you search for any Level 4 or lower Performapal from Deck, which is a great effect that honestly makes the rest not matter. Performapals are very consistent with their searching and this just adds to it by searching even more searchers or other ways to get card advantage. It also helps set the Scales up, taking care of the downside of this becoming a Scale 4 if there isn’t a Performapal in your other Scale, which you don’t really got an excuse for when this searches a Performapal. Hard once per turn on the search, cause Performapals would start getting a ton more advantage otherwise. Monster Effect lets you discard this card to reveal a Performapal or Odd-Eyes monster in your hand to reduce the Levels of monsters in your hand with that name by 1 for the rest of the turn, even after being Normal Summoned or Set. Honestly, I doubt this effect ever comes up, even if it might be insurance to make Pendulum Summons of certain monsters easier. You don’t want to give up the Pendulum Effect of this card by discarding this, it’s really the reason you play it, so 100% play the 1 copy you’re allowed to now in anything using Performapals.

More Performapal, in Monkeyboard…as noted at least in terms of art. Level 6 here, Earth/Beast are fine together but it will seldom matter. Low atk at 1000 but nice def at 2400 at least snf a good scale of 1. Monster form let’s you discard this to reveal a Theme or Odd-Eyes card and reduce the Level of your monster by 1 for the rest of the Turn.
So we’re setting up Extra Deck plays while having some say in Level manipulation make this a good card to start.
Swinging to the Pendulum side, scale of 1 but changes to 4 if you don’t have another card in your other Pendulum zone. Fair enough and that’s a switch that can help for other plans, and if you get it alone again, back to 1. I like how there’s some room there and that it isn’t always under your control.
Finally, if that Effect is activated, you’re going to gain any Level 4 or lower Performapal straight from your Deck to your Hand. Which we love always. This card does a really nice and balanced joh (overall on both sides) in setting plays up and fetching others for you.

Another card from before my time, recently freed from 0 to 1 on the TCG banlist– Performapal Monkeyboard is this week’s Throwback Thursday, being a level 6 EARTH Beast Pendulum monster. While all sorts of stuff can search Performapal monsters, Performapal Skullcrobat Joker or Performapal Pendulum Sorcerer will usually be the cards to bring this out. Monkeyboard has a great Pendulum Scale of 1, though if you use it wrong, it’ll be a much less attractive 4 instead (we’ll get to that). While Monkeyboard does have a terrible 1000 attack for a level 6 monster, it at least has a semi-respectable 2400 defense, neither of which are particularly relevant anyway.
Monkeyboard’s Pendulum effect is what made it a major playmaker in the infamous Pepe deck from 2015, resulting in both it and Performage Plushfire being banned. Monkeyboard’s Pendulum Scale becomes 4 if you don’t have a Performapal card in your other Pendulum Zone, which can accidentally happen if you’re running Dracoslayers and Performages, so be wary of that especially since most of your monsters will be level 4 and thus excluded from being Pendulum Summoned. The actual effect can be activated during the Main Phase of the turn Monkeyboard was activated to a Pendulum Zone, letting you search any level 4 or lower Performapal on a hard once per turn. This sets up your Pendulum scales with a single card, which was an amazing luxury even during Master Rule 3 where Pendulum decks were at their strongest. As far as I know, you’d usually search any Performapal with a scale of 5 or higher, like Performapal Guitartle or Performapal Odd-Eyes Unicorn, just to help flood the board with level 4 monsters. Alternatively, Monkeyboard can search another Skullcrobat Joker for follow up, allowing you to do everything again on your next turn. Hope you like Xyz monsters!
Monkeyboard’s monster effect is considerably less exciting. By discarding Monkeyboard, you can reveal a Performapal or Odd-Eyes monster in your hand and reduce the levels of all monsters with that name by one until the end of the turn. It does make Pendulum Summoning or Tribute Summoning certain monsters easier, but if you’re using this effect, something must have gone wrong to prevent you from using Monkeyboard’s Pendulum effect. At least it’s not once per turn? Though I can’t imagine why you’d burn through multiple Monkeyboards like this…
Overall, while Pepe is hardly the juggernaut it used to be, Monkeyboard still seems to be a great card for Performapal decks, so coming back to one is a welcome addition to the struggling Pendulum mechanic.
