Scareclaw Reichheart – #DIFO-EN012

You can Special Summon this card (from your hand) to your Main Monster Zone, adjacent to a “Scareclaw” monster you control or in its column. You can only Special Summon “Scareclaw Reichheart” once per turn this way. If this card is Normal or Special Summoned: You can add 1 “Scareclaw” Spell/Trap from your Deck to your hand, then, if 3 or more Defense Position monsters are on the field, you can draw 1 card. You can only use this effect of “Scareclaw Reichheart” once per turn.

Hello Pojo Fans,

Scareclaw Week shows up on Pojo CoTD, a new archetype that loves playing defensive. We’re starting the look at it with Scareclaw Reichheart.

All Scareclaw monsters in the Main Deck have the same first ability regarding their Special Summoning. An easy Special Summon condition for a Main Deck monster is always appreciated. All you need is one Scareclaw to start spamming the field with other Scareclaw monsters. Four monsters in the Main Deck and Reichheart is the only Level 4 Warrior while the rest of the bunch are Level 3 Beast. Reichheart is your standard searcher, netting you a Scareclaw Spell/Trap off its Normal or Special Summon. While you’d like to start things with Reichheart it’s best to build the field and then summon him, as he needs three or more Defense Position monsters to get you a free draw.

The main goal of the archetype is to get to your big Link 3 Monster and trash the field with it. If you go through one of each Scareclaw monster in one turn to get there you should have one in Defense Position left over. Depending on which one, your Link will get another bonus: piercing, attack per number of Defense Position monsters, gain 300ATK per each Defense Position monsters you have. Of those effects, the more attacks is the best effect, so leave Scareclaw Astra on the field.

Unique archetype with a staple starter for it. Every archetype should have a searcher with solid stats, it’s only fair.

We have entered the world of Visas Starfrost and will now meet the Scareclaws by starting with one of their main monsters: Scareclaw Reichheart.

Reichheart is a Level 4 DARK Warrior with 1500 ATK and 2100 DEF. A great DEF stat all around and we’ve seen how good DARK and Warrior together have been. First effect lets you Special Summon this card from the hand to a Main Monster Zone adjacent to a Scareclaw’s column or directly in it, which is pretty much easy to pull off as long as the zones next to your Scareclaws are clear for this to drop off into. All the Scareclaws do this, which is nice to get a lot of bodies on board. You only get to summon this, and of course the other Scareclaws, once per turn this way, otherwise we might get a little too much Link Spam. Upon being Normal or Special Summoned, you can add any Scareclaw Spell/Trap from your Deck to your hand, which is good to ensure your arsenal of backrow is always at your access if you got this. You also get to draw a card if there are 3 or more Defense Position monsters on the field, which this archetype can get monsters in Defense Position easily by straight up summoning them in Defense or using the Link to force all other monsters into Defense. Hard once per turn on the search, whether you add the draw or not. Reichheart is probably the best of the 4 Scareclaws in the Main Deck since it does something on its own while the others just boost the Link. We take consistency where we can get it.

Art: 4.5/5 It’s Visas Starfrost’s evil twin from the Scareclaw world I guess.

Apologies for missing yesterday, it was a busy weekend here.  But I’m here for the rest of the week, and the only jokes I have for these Reichhearts are rather inappropriate, so we’ll see what I can do with that as the days progress this week.  Dark, Warrior, Level 4, all good so far, 1500 atk is meh but searchable via a number of cards, and that 2100 defense is something, no?  Once a Turn, you can Special Summon this to the Field to a zone adjacent to or in the same column as another Theme Monster.  A non-Link Monster working as a Link Monster is a fun Effect, and that should be easy enough for you to drop to the Field more often than not.  Instant fetching of any Theme Magic/Trap off a Normal or Special Summon is nothing to be upset about either.  After that Effect, you net yourself a Draw if there are 3 Defense Position Monsters on the Field at the time.  Note, not even YOUR Field, but THE Field, so that’s fun.  The Draw Effect is Once per Turn, and you know, can’t be overdrawing, unless we do…Pretty much most of this card is useless, save the Draw, and you aren’t even guaranteed to get that off the second Effect.  The first Effect could/should get better, as the card pool here isn’t particularly large yet.  Solid enough card to open the week, and I still like that defense.

Rating:  3.25/5

Art:  3.5/5 too I guess, it’s fun enough, and the color is cool, but too much of this purple stuff (purple is fine) just this pic is a bit bland, but still captures enough of my interest.

If Visas Starfrost wasn’t any indication, this week covers the Scareclaw archetype, the first in the Visas Starfrost storyline debuting in Dimension Force. Their first card is Scareclaw Reichheart, a level 4 DARK Warrior, so you can search it with Reinforcement of the Army and it has access to most Warrior goodies (though it may not be a very good idea in Scareclaw decks). Funnily, it has the inverse stats of Visas Starfrost, which gives it a middling 1500 attack but an impressive 2100 defense for a level 4 monster, though we’ve long passed the age of low-level high-defense monsters being useful walls.

Reichheart shares its first effect with all other main deck Scareclaws, letting you Special Summon it from your hand to a Main Monster Zone adjacent to any Scareclaw on the field once per turn (basically, directly to the left or right of a Scareclaw or under a Scareclaw Link monster). This’ll be your main method of swarming with Scareclaws, so it’s nice that they all have it. Reichheart’s second effect searches any Scareclaw Spell or Trap if it’s Normal or Special Summoned, then draws one card if there are 3 or more monsters in Defense position on the field. While this won’t come up too often on turn 1, it is helpful for getting out of sticky situations in longer games where you’re more likely to have your board filled. Currently, the best cards to search with Reichheart are Scareclaw Arrival for extending (which we’ll actually cover tomorrow) or Scareclaw Sclash for its omni negate. Scareclaw Alternative sounds good in this deck, but tributing 3 monsters is a pretty hefty cost for something that won’t happen all of the time. There’s another powerful Trap that Scareclaws will get in the future, but we’ll get to that when we get there. Not much else to say, Reichheart is a staple card for Scareclaw decks and, regardless of whether it sees success, you’ll want to run it for casual or competitive purposes. It’s a ROTA that Special Summons itself, which many archetypes can only dream of.

Advanced: 3.5/5

Art: 3.25/5 The design itself is pretty cool, though something is a little off about the pose and expression? Ah well, at least he gets better later.

Today’s review is of the powered up (or simply alternate) version of yesterday’s CotD: Visas Starfrost. Scareclaw Reichheart is easier to Summon than yesterday’s counterpart as he’s a Level 4 monster this time (instead of 6). Like with Visas, Reichheart has a way to Special Summon himself from the Hand.

This is a free Summon (unlike Visas), but you have to put Reichheart into a zone that’s adjacent to another Scareclaw.

Upon Summon, Reichheart fetches any Scareclaw backrow. Afterwards, if there are at least 3 DEF mode monsters on the Field, you can draw an additional card.
The ability to potentially go +2 without committing your Normal Summon is a great asset to any deck. Reichheart is a great starter and/or extender and the restrictions on his effects aren’t hard to pull off.

The Scareclaw archetype is all about swarming the Field next to each other and forcing their opponents to cower in Defense. I also like that if your Opponent isn’t as on the defensive as you’d like them to be, you could always use Reichheart’s Special Summon to put himself in DEF so that you only need to worry about there being 2 other DEF mode monsters on the Field in order to trigger his draw.

The true usefulness of this card will lie in how powerful the Scareclaw Spells and Traps are. Don’t worry, we’ll be diving into them soon enough. Suffice to say, this card actually isn’t half bad and has the potential to be completely busted if the Scareclaws receive more support in the future.

Advanced Rating – 3.5/5
Art – 3.5/5 (If Visas Starfrost gave off Genshin Impact vibes, this form reminds me more of Honkai Impact)
