Nimble Angler is the Throwback Thursday choice and our mystery card that, while WATER Attribute and not a Spright card in any fashion, aligns itself with Deep Sea Diva to help Sprights gain advantage.
Send Angler from the hand or Deck to the Graveyard to get any two Level 3 or lower “Nimble” monsters from your Deck. There’s that deck thin and Link/Xyz Summon I spoke of. Going into Sprind first turn will thin the Deck by three off of Sprind’s first effect and get you set up for another Link 2 or a Rank 2 Xyz Summon (likely Gigantic Spright). Of the “Nimble” monsters you’d run, you’ll likely go with one Angler and three Nimble Beaver. Beaver can Special Summon another “Nimble” monster from the hand or grave when Normal Summoned, making Beaver a one-card Link 2 or Rank 2. You could also use the old school Nimble Momonga, but Momonga needs to be destroyed by battle to get you a mere 1000LP gain. You’d get to Special Summon your final Momonga face-down off the first Momonga’s destruction, but it doesn’t support the Sprights desire to Xyz/Link Summon. Any other “Nimble” monster outside those listed above need to be destroyed and sent to the grave and that’s not what we’re doing here.
Nimble Angler is a great tech card for Sprights because of how easily it gets you to your Gigantic Spright or Spright Sprind. It’s been there since the beginning of the deck and I don’t think it will be leaving unless there comes a better Level 2 toolbox for the archetype.

Throwback Thursday this week is one of the better targets for Spright Sprind to send from Deck to grave, and a card I’ve always thought was a little cool: Nimble Angler.
Nimble Angler is a Level 2 WATER Fish with 600 ATK and 100 DEF. Stats are bad, but WATER and Fish are fine. The only effect triggers upon being sent from the hand or Deck to the graveyardd, letting you summon up to 2 Level 3 or lower Nimble monsters from your Deck, besides other copies of Nimble Angler. It’s probably the best, most generic target for Sprind to get 2 Level 2s onto the field. The main target really is Nimble Beaver since drawing it isn’t that bad due to being able to Normal Summon it and get a Nimble monster from the Deck. I know there are some interesting plays with Nimble Sunfish at the very least, but I know I can say I don’t think you’ll see Nimble Momonga coming out in 2023 off this sadly. It’s a fine card, mainly for something like Spright. You don’t want to draw it since the only way to get it from the hand to grave is something like Swap Frog, it’s mainly a card you hope stays in the Deck, but it gives a nice benefit from doing so due to Spright Sprind.

Following up on yesterday, today’s Throwback Thursday is Nimble Angler from the ancient Nimble archetype. It’s a level 2 WATER Fish monster, which should give a hint about why it’s relevant. As a WATER Fish, it enjoys many of the amenities of that combination, notably being millable by Lifeless Leaffish. Unsurprisingly, Angler’s stats are a pathetic 600 attack and 100 defense, so ideally it won’t find itself in any combat situations.
Nimble Angler has a single non once per turn trigger effect, letting you Special Summon up to two level 3 or lower Nimble monsters (except itself) from your Deck if Angler is sent from the hand or deck to the Graveyard. Getting two bodies might not seem like a huge deal in modern Yugioh, but it actually kind of is! Nimble Angler has always seen sporadic play in decks like Atlantean, Frogs, and even Dragon Rulers, among other things, but it has never really been on the radar until now, with it being a core component of the new Spright combo by dumping it with Spright Sprind. You play 3 Nimble Beavers anyway since it’s a good combo starter for Spright decks, but being able to take advantage of them as combo pieces as well is incredibly helpful, though you can always run more level 2 Nimbles for comfort. Nimble Angler’s only downside is showcased specifically in Spright, where it’s a garnet since you can’t dump it from the hand, but overall it’s easily one of the strongest Nimble monsters and has aged incredibly well compared to the others (aside from Beaver). Run just one if you need to dump it from deck, but if you can discard it manually, running more copies should be okay.
