Next up for our classic retrains based off anime moments, we got Red-Eyes Soul.
Red-Eyes Soul is a Level 7 DARK Dragon with 900 ATK and 2000 DEF. Stats aren’t great, but at least it has DARK and Dragon going for it. First effect treats it as Red-Eyes Black Dragon while on the field or in the graveyard, giving you more Red-Eyes Black Dragon names somewhat. Next we got a hard once per turn after the opponent Special Summons a monster(s), letting you send this card from your hand or field to the graveyard to summon any Red-Eyes monster from the Deck that isn’t another Red-Eyes Soul. It’s a solid effect to get to your Red-Eyes monsters, with the best target probably being Red-Eyes Darkness Metal Dragon still after all these years and an errata to the card. Anyways, final effect is a once per Duel and a Quick Effect, targeting a Red-Eyes Black Dragon you control to burn the opponent for damage equal to the target’s original ATK. It’s nice burn, though better if you can target Red-Eyes Black Dragon himself or anything you summon off of Red-Eyes Fusion to get more than 900 burn off this effect. It’s a fine card for Red-Eyes, fitting the theme of the archetype as a whole. It isn’t on the level of Dark Magician or Blue-Eyes still as a pure Deck, but this card is a nice addition.
Advanced Rating: 3/5
Art: 5/5 The artwork and ATK stat of this card is a reference to the duel between Yugi and Joey when he was possessed by Marik, where after Rocket Warrior attacked Red-Eyes Black Dragon, its ATK went down by 1500 as well as it losing its arm and wing in the process. The burn effect references Joey demanding Red-Eyes to attack him after he had already used Meteor of Destruction and Yugi used Mystical Refpanel to make his own LP 0, not wanting to see his friend perish in the Duel, so the attack would instead end things in a draw so both duelists could survive.
