You can Ritual Summon this card with a “Recipe” card. If this card is Special Summoned: You can negate the effects of all face-up cards your opponent currently controls (until the end of this turn), then, if this card was Special Summoned by the effect of a “Nouvelles” monster, you can Tribute as many monsters your opponent controls as possible. Hello Pojo Fans,
Baelgrill de Nouvelles is your strongest archetype Ritual Monster and involves yesterday’s Throwback Thursday choice. Never thought I’d ever live to see Hungry Burger get support…if I were an archetype fan who got zero support for years, I’d be kinda upset.
Highest Level Ritual Monster within the Nouvelles archetype, Baelgrill requires a Recipe Ritual Spell like all your other Ritual Monsters, or Contract with the Abyss. When you Special Summon Baelgrill, you get a board negation of all face-up card effects until the end of the turn. Wow, for something that can do this off your Level 5 tributing itself and an opponent’s Attack Position monster (you wouldn’t tribute your own), that is a big effect. On top of that, if you Special Summoned Baelgrill the way I just mentioned, you can tribute all your opponent’s monsters. This archetype likes to take its small Ritual Monsters and turn them into bigger ones all the while taking Attack Position monsters along with them. You are taking a monster of your opponents each time you do this and then when you reach Baelgrill you negate everything and then get rid of all their monsters. Imaging Ritual Summoning the Level 5 and your opponent trying Infinite Impermanence only to have their board wrecked?
Hungry Burger suddenly finds a place to be run, as Baelgrill can tribute an opponent’s monster to Special Summon it from the hand or Deck during either players turn. You’d likely only run one copy, as Burger is 2000ATK and a vanilla Ritual Monster. You should wipe the board clean of monster with the first effect, but having this in your pocket to disrupt your opponent’s turn is a good option. The thought of Hungry Burger attacking for game in 2023 is mind-blowing.
For sure your best Ritual Monster of the archetype. Strongest ATK, board-wipe potential without triggering effect(s), and, at its very least, negation of all cards your opponent controls for the turn. The Hungry Burger thing is an added bonus, though I’m not sure you need it in the archetype. You want this monster out quickly, you don’t want to have to climb from Buerillabaisse to get there either.

We end the week off with the boss monster of all the Nouvelles Ritual Monsters, the main chef himself: Baelgrill de Nouvelles.
Baelgrill is a Level 6 DARK Warrior Ritual with 2400 ATK and 1850 DEF. Acceptable stats for a Level 6 Ritual, plus a good combo of DARK and Warrior. It can be Ritual Summoned with any Recipe card, so options are there. Upon being Special Summoned, you can negate the effects of all face-up cards the opponent currently controls for the turn, then if this was Special Summoned by the effect of a Nouvelles monster, you can tribute as many monsters the opponent controls as possible. The blanket negation on the entire board for the opponent and tributing all their monsters is pretty powerful. It’s easy to get this effect with the Level 4 and Level 5 both being able to summon Baelgrill directly from the Deck, but a simple Ritual Summon just to get the negation can be enough sometimes. Finally, we got a Quick Effect to target an Attack Position monster the opponent controls to tribute it and summon a Hungry Burger from your hand or Deck. Solid removal, plus a free monster on top of that, even if the monster is Hungry Burger. Hard once per turn on this card is fine. Baelgrill is a pretty good Ritual, one I can see being summoned mainly on the opponent’s turn to disrupt their plays, and if they’re able to keep going you can use Baelgrill’s other effect to disrupt them even more and get a Hungry Burger. I’d say a copy or 2 of this in Nouvelles 100% works, and you probably should throw a Hungry Burger into the Deck for good measure, since at worst you could just put it back in the Deck with the Field Spell.

Closing the week is the official boss of the Nouvelles archetype, Baelgrill de Nouvelles, a level 6 DARK Warrior Ritual monster, properties identical to the infamous Hungry Burger. Beyond generic means like Preparation of Rites or sending Herald of the Arc Light to the Graveyard, you can (and probably should) summon it off of Foie Glasya de Nouvelles or Balameuniere de Nouvelles for its Special Summon trigger effect. Baelgrill’s stats are a moderate improvement over Hungry Burger’s stats, having the same 1850 defense like all Nouvelles monsters but 400 more attack for 2400, which could be higher but I suppose it makes sense for a level 6 monster.
Baelgrill’s recommended Ritual Spell is any Recipe Ritual Spell (sans the original Hamburger Recipe for obvious reasons) and has two hard once per turn effects, the first triggering when it’s Special Summoned, negating the effects of all of your opponent’s currently face-up cards until the end of the turn, tributing all monsters as well if you summoned it off of another Nouvelles monster. This effect is fantastic and possibly one of the strongest disruptions in the entire game with the bonus, though even without the bonus a blanket negation is quite strong. While you’d normally have to rely on Foie Glasya or Balameuniere or the Ritual Trap to pull it off, it’s probably easiest to use Dyna Mondo, as the former two will require your opponent to have an Attack position monster, a restriction that can be played around rather easily. You’ll lose out on the bonus effect, but it’s a lot more reliable that way. Baelgrill’s other effect is a Quick effect letting you tribute an opponent’s Attack position monster (sadly for effect, not for cost) to Special Summon Hungry Burger from your hand or deck. Fielding Hungry Burger as a body is just a small bonus (but a potential brick) for what’s otherwise fairly strong removal, as you can easily delete most monsters that would be able to threaten Baelgrill by battle as long as they were summoned in Attack position. Despite an incredible foundation and a very strong boss monster in Baelgrill, Nouvelles has issues with consistency and bricking on its own Ritual monsters, not to mention currently lacking a way to trigger their targeting effects, so wait for Age of Overlord when they’re ready to come out of the oven.
