Battles of Legends review week here on Pojo CoTD, and we’re starting things off with some good ol Blackwing support in the form of Blackwing – Sharnga the Waning Moon
PLENTY of support behind it, it’s Blackwings. Special Summon ability is pretty much standard on Blackwings nowadays, so it’s nice that this Level 2 500/500 has that. Tuner ability attached is also something pretty standard on Blackwings as well. It is most likely your opponent will have a monster with 2000ATK or more on the field, making this Special Summon easy. Banish from the grave if you have a Blackwing Synchro Monster for spot removal of a monster your opponent controls is a nice effect, though you can only use it once per duel.
I capitalized “plenty” because at this point there are a plethora of Blackwing monsters, spell, and traps. For a Blackwing to be in the Main Deck it has to be able to do a lot. I mourn the death of Shura being used in a competitive build, or even really any of the old Blackwing monsters minus using a single copy here and there. Most often, Blackwings need another Blackwing on the field to spam their Special Summon ability, so this card fits the bill for that requirement. Gofu the Vague Shadow, Gust the Backblast and Breeze the Zephyr are the only cards other than Waning Moon that can Special Summon themselves without direct opponent interaction or needing another Blackwing on the field. Level 2 Tuner is always a good stat to have with 12 available Synchro targets for Waning Moon to be a part of.
Blackwing – Sharnga the Waning Moon is a decent bit going for it. Small stats but potential to be a strong starting card early on. Another Blackwing with the ability to find a spot in the archetype.

So we don’t completely skip over Battles of Legend barring a few cards over the next few weekends, we’ll look at some of the better cards from the set this week for several Decks starting with a new Tuner for the Blackwing archetype, Blackwing – Sharnga the Waning Moon.
Sharnga the Waning Moon is a Level 2 DARK Winged Beast Tuner with 500 ATK and DEF. Stats don’t matter much on Tuners, but DARK and Winged Beast is a good start. It has a Special Summon effect most the other Blackwings got, this one requiring a monster with 2000 or more ATK to be on the field for you to Special Summon this from the hand, which is shockingly pretty generic. I guess any Deck using monsters strong enough could use this as a free Level 2 Tuner, maybe tune it with a Level 8 to summon Full Armor Master since that takes any non-Tuner(s) to summon, which combos well with this card’s second effect, being a Quick Effect to banish itself from the graveyard to target and destroy a face-up card the opponent controls, with the only caviat being you need to control a Blackwing Synchro. Anything that can use this to summon a Full Armor Master gets free removal and the big body that’s unaffected by other effects, but it’s still fits well in Blackwings to summon any of their Synchros and get the free removal. The Special Summon effect is a hard once per turn and the graveyard effect is a once per Duel, keeping things fairly balanced this way. It’s still a good Blackwing Tuner monster, to be honest. The Special Summon ability is the most generic of any Blackwing and the graveyard effect is extremely useful for anything that can use this to summon Blackwing Synchros that are worthwhile. Solid card to start the week.

We leave Wild Survivors behind us as we get into the new cards imported in Battles of Legend: Monstrous Revenge, starting with Blackwing – Sharnga the Waning Moon. Yet another member of the massive Blackwing archetype, Sharnga is expectedly a level 2 DARK Winged-Beast Tuner monster, giving it synergy with a variety of decks, though naturally the best user is still Blackwing. Sharnga has unimpressive stats of 500 for both attack and defense, which is to be expected for a low-level Tuner monster.
Taking a page out of the much-beloved Assault Synchron’s book, Sharnga can Special Summon itself from your hand once per turn as long as there’s a 2000 attack monster on the field. In Blackwing, this shouldn’t be an issue since many of your Synchro climbers, particularly Blackwing – Boreastorm the Wicked Wind, fit the criteria. While your starters unfortunately lack the necessary attack stat, it’s not hard to make Boreastorm anyway. Sharnga’s other is a rare once per duel Quick Effect, letting you banish it from your Graveyard to target and destroy any face-up card on your opponent’s field as long as you control a Blackwing Synchro monster. This is an amazing effect for Blackwing, because the archetype struggled somewhat to have meaningful in-house disruption outside of Black-Winged Assault Dragon, and you can even make some low-investment combos with simply Full Armor Master and Sharnga in the Graveyard. Sharnga is an excellent extender overall (though not as good generically as Assault Synchron), but its main purpose is its added disruption for Blackwing decks. You can easily search it in Blackwing so you can’t go wrong with only one, but adding more is up to taste.
