Hello Pojo Fans,
Poissonniere de Nouvelles starts a week of Age of Overlord cards we’ll be looking at.
Level 1 Pendulum Monster with flipped stats for ATK/DEF that you’d see on vanilla monsters long ago. As a Pendulum Spell, Poissonniere can Special Summon herself from the Pendulum Zone by changing a monster’s battle position. You need a Ritual Monster to facilitate this, but that is what the Nouvelles archetype is. If your opponent has only Link Monsters you are out of luck and will have to change your Ritual Monster or something else to likely Defense Position to Special Summon Poissonniere. A Scale of eight gives you good range for Pendulum Summoning, but Poissonniere is all about being Special Summoned to make use of her monster effect.
As a monster, when summoned in any way, Poissonniere is another Ritual searcher for your archetype. Searching out a Ritual Monster or a Recipe card, she immediately helps get you to another Ritual Summon. If you don’t want to add something to your hand, Poissonniere can banish any number of Recipe cards in your graveyard for a Nouvelles special Summon from the hand. Thankfully there are a few smaller Nouvelles Ritual Monsters, otherwise this wouldn’t be a possible effect. Confiras or Foie are smaller Ritual Monsters that can destroy a Spell/Trap or shuffle up to three cards in any grave back to the Deck respectfully, as well as start up your Ritual climbing through their tribute effects. Searchers are some of the best monsters in the game, and every archetype typically needs them. Even with the momentous support Ritual-based decks have, it is always appreciated to have a good searcher within the archetype you are running. Being able to Special Summon off banishing cards from the graveyard is more useful when the game has begun to develop, while searching is immediately helpful.
Adding back to the Pendulum Zone if tributed and added back to the Extra Deck face-up is something you are seeing on many Pendulum Monsters now, and is appreciated as Poissonniere can be used each turn over and over by having this ability to add herself back to the Pendulum Zone.
Poissonniere may be small, but she packs a punch. Whether a standard search for your Ritual supplies, or banishing recipes to Special Summon a Ritual from your hand, she is an enabler for your Ritual climbing, as well as speeding through your deck. Don’t overlook the changing a monster’s position effect either, that can eat up a negation and hopefully not result in her destruction while in the Pendulum Zone.

As is tradition, we got a full week of random archetype support starting with a Pendulum for the Nouvelles archetype: Poissonniere de Nouvelles.
Poissonniere as a Pendulum Scale is a Scale 8 where if you control a Ritual Monster, you can target a monster on the field to Special Summon this monster to the field and change the monster’s battle position. Mainly, it’s just a way to target your Nouvelles Ritual Monsters so you can climb up that ladder by tributing them and hopefully the opponent’s monsters. For that purpose alone, it’s a good Pendulum Effect. Hard once per turn on it of course.
Poissonniere as a monster is a Level 1 DARK Fairy Pendulum with 700 ATK and 1700 DEF. Fine stats for a Level 1, DARK is always good, and a Level 1 Fairy is nice for a Ritual strategy. Upon Normal or Special Summon, you can either add a Level 1 Ritual Monster or Recipe card from your Deck to your hand or you can banish any number of Recipe cards from your graveyard to summon a Nouvelles Ritual from your hand with a Level equal to the number of banished cards. The search effect is probably the best effect, getting you to the starting Nouvelles monster for the ladder or any Spell/Trap you might need to Ritual Summon, cycle resources, etc. I don’t think the second effect is far as useful since the Deck can easily recycle their Recipe cards from the graveyard, but if you need that effect, it’s there. Hard once per turn on that choice, which is fair. This card also does go to the Pendulum Scale when tributed, so good for your Ritual Summons or fodder for your Nouvelles monsters. Poissonniere does help Nouvelles out a bit by adding a bit more consistency as well as serving as a way to trigger the Ritual Monster’s effects in archetype. It being a target to summon from Deck with a tributed Diviner of the Herald is also nice. I’d say play 3.

This week we’re covering some of the archetypal support in Age of Overlord. Nouvelles get a much-needed card in Poissonniere de Nouvelles, a level 1 DARK Fairy Pendulum monster with a scale of 8. As a level 1 Fairy monster, you can access it with the Diviner of the Herald engine (sending Trias Hierarchia) or One for One, plus through Balameuniere de Nouvelles and Concours de Cuisine (Culinary Confrontation), so you can grab it pretty consistently. While Nouvelles doesn’t have an in-house Pendulum monster yet, they can use Patissciel Couverture (thanks, Concours de Cuisine) to Pendulum Summon, if you wanted to do that for some reason (you can’t Pendulum Summon Ritual monsters aside from Odd-Eyes Pendulumgraph Dragon, by the way!). Poissonniere’s stats are surprisingly decent for a level 1, with a predictably low 700 attack and average 1700 defense, though neither are worth writing home about in the grand scheme.
Poissonniere’s sole Pendulum effect is a hard once per turn, letting you target a monster on the field and change its battle position to Special Summon Poissonniere, from the Pendulum Zone, though only if you control a Ritual monster. This can ensure your opponent has an Attack position monster to Tribute, but more importantly, you can target your own Nouvelles Ritual monsters to trigger their climbing effects. Needing a Ritual monster first is a tad silly, but it’s not a huge issue with Nouvelles’ smorgasbord of search power.
Accordingly, Poissonniere’s first effect is also a hard once per turn, triggering if it’s Normal or Special Summoned; you can either search any level 1 Ritual monster or Recipe card, or banish Recipe cards from your Graveyard and Special Summon a Ritual monster from your hand with a level equal to the number of Recipe cards you banished. Poissonniere can quickly set up the summon of Bouillabaisse de Nouvelles provided you have the monster itself or the Recipe, and it can go even further with its last effect, which places itself in the Pendulum Zone if it’s sent to the Extra Deck after being Tributed, letting you use its Pendulum effect to immediately trigger Buerillabaisse and climb into a higher level Nouvelles monster. Nouvelles unfortunately still relies on multiple card combos to accomplish much, but Poissonniere is a huge combo piece that increases consistency and gives them more plays; run as many copies as possible!
+Great Normal Summon combo tool for Nouvelles
+Easily accessible
-Still doesn’t truly combo on its own
(Trying a new summary section, neat, huh?)
