Scott,
This one happened during a recent
game, and had both of us
scratching our heads for a moment. I haven't seen this one described in
the
archives, so I'd thought I'd ask. The sequence of events was:
1. I attack his Dark Wartortle with Rapidash (Jungle), using Agility, and
flip heads.
2. His turn, he uses Mirror Shell.
3. I attack again with Agility, flipping tails.
So, should my Rapidash have taken 30 points of damage?
Here are the attack texts:
Agility:
Flip a
coin. If heads, during your opponent's next turn,
prevent
all effects of attacks, including damage, done to
Rapidash.
Mirror Shell:
If an attack does damage to Dark Wartortle during your
opponent's
next turn (even if Dark Wartortle is Knocked Out), Dark
Wartortle
attacks the Defending Pokemon for an equal amount of damage.
It all depends on the timing. One view would be that Mirror Shell's damage
reflection is an effect of the attack, and that attack occured in my turn,
and hence Agility prevented it. Another view is the damage reflection is
the effect, and it doesn't happen in my opponent's next turn, but in mine,
so Agility (which says nothing about *my* turn, just my opponent's) does not
prevent it. What do you think?
Best Regards,
Peter Aronson
I have now realized that I have a guideline for what a "wonderful
question" is. A wonderful question is defined as any question that
makes me stop, scratch my head, pick up the cards in question, and read
them. So, saying that.....
Wonderful question, Peter. You are right, the question is, simply, is Mirror Shell's effect something done to Rapidash? The answer is no. Mirror Shell's effect is something that does on Dark Wartortle and has nothing to do with Rapidash.
As a side note, though, Dark Wartortle actually will do 60 to Rapidash due to weakness.
