Shedinja – This week we continue the reviews of the flying
bugs. We have seen Shedinja in the past but never as a
Psychic type. As a Ghost bug, Shedinja has an interesting
Poke-Body called Empty Shell – When Shedinja is knocked out
your opponent doesn’t draw a prize card. At 50 hp I like to
think of Shedinja as a beefed up Stage 1 Fossil card.
Its bottom line is no weakness, no resistance, and no
retreat cost. Its one and only attack Extra Curse lets you
place 2 damage counters on the defending Pokemon and if its
Pokemon-ex then you can place 4 damage counters on Pokemon-ex.
This is nice as by placing damage counters it will allow you
to bypass Metal Energies and other effects.
Unlimited: 2/5 – Not gamebreaking here. The take no prize in
Empty Shell is nice and can lead to an interesting Stall
deck with Fossils and some other combos but with the
numerous abilities to de-evovle Pokemon, Nincada is very
susceptible.
Modified: 2.5/5 – Again as a Stage 1, ATM Rock will be able
to take a prize by de-evolving Shedinja to Nincada. Extra
Curse is always helpful as a last ditch effort to get 2
prizes if your opponents’ Pokemon-ex has 40 HP remaining and
with a cost of 1C it is very cheap and splashable in any
deck.
Limited: 3.5/5 – Shedinja is really good here. With the
ability to dish out 2 damage counters a turn, and with no
drawbacks when Shedinja is knocked out, and the possibility
to finish off a Pokemon-ex to draw your last 2 prizes.
