This card stays in play when you play it. Discard this card
if another Stadium card comes into play. If another card
with the same name is in play, you can’t play this card. At
any time between turns, each player places 1 damage counter
on his or her Pokémon that has a Poké-Power.
As my computer
was malfunctioning lately, this CotD is running late. Stadiums
are fairly straight forward, so I’ll forgo my normal headings in
this section.
Cursed
Stone
is a new Stadium that has Liability fans thrilled, amongst
others. At the moment, quite a few Poké-Power are used in
Modified, and this card will, at the very least, act as a “Super
Strength Charm” if used against them; tacking on 1 more
damage counter between turns before being discarded next turn by
an opponent’s action. And if they can’t get rid of it, it just
builds more advantage.
For those who
don’t remember, Liability is an attack on EX Deoxys Weezing
that requires a single Energy of any type to use. It places
damage counters on the Defending Pokémon until it has 10 HP
left, then does 70 damage to Weezing itself (usually
resulting in a self-inflicted KO). Weezing is usually
combined with some other effect that places that last damage
counter, resulting in a double KO. Liability decks then have
other means of capitalizing on the situation. Between this and
Desert Ruins, there are actually quite a few potential
victims of an easy Weezing-based OHKO. Actual Liability
decks will probably include at least one copy (even if it
damages some of the Pokémon in the deck itself, Liability Decks
are used to dealing with this problem). Although less likely, I
can even see the decks run a split of this and Desert Ruins
combined with 3 EX Deoxys Weezing and one EX Delta
Species Weezing… making it so that only non-Pokémon-ex
and Pokémon without Poké-Bodies or Poké-Powers are safe from an
quick and easy OHKO. And that is before whatever is backing the
Weezing.
Outside of
such decks, any deck with very few or no Poké-Powers should
strongly consider this card. For such decks, this is now the
default Stadium.
Ratings
Unlimited :
3.5/5 – There are some really great Stadiums in this format and
this has joined them. Wonderful for Vileplume ex and in
general just nice to punish a bench full of Slowking:
even if they discard it right away, that’s probably a total of
30 damage from a single Trainer. If you can keep dropping them…
it could be lethal. Of course, the trick is getting it down
without Mind Games stopping it.
Modified :
4/5 – We really needed this: Poké-Powers were threatening to get
out of hand again, and Pidgeot and Magcargo are in
far too many decks as is. This probably won’t keep people from
playing those cards, but it will give you a way to punish them
for it.
Limited :
4/5 – Assuming
you don’t have to choose between running it and running several
good Pokémon with Poké-Powers yourself, it will otherwise be a
potential bomb to drop on the opposition. I myself pulled 3
different Stadiums at a pre-Release this weekend… but none were
Cursed Stone. Even though there are a lot of Poké-Bodies
in this set, there are still Poké-Powers as well, and you have a
good chance of getting a prize out of it.
