Electrike has the advantage of not
requiring any specific energy for its attack. This is
actually good considering the fact that most basic
Pokémon with “flip a coin; If heads the defending
Pokémon is now [special condition]” attacks require a
specific type of energy. The weakness and retreat cost
are reasonable, and the resistance to metal can’t hurt.
Only having 40 HP makes Electrike susceptible to FTKs by
a fighting Pokémon with a strength charm or a Hitmonchan
[BS]. Other than that, this card is good compared to the
other 9 versions of Electrike.
Manectric’s second attack does an average
of 50 damage for three energy, one of which must be a
specific type. This is standard for stage 1 Pokémon.
Combinations: -Use Wally’s Training/ Rare
Candy on your active Elektrke first turn and use
“Plasma”. On the second turn, you should have enough
energy to use “Quick Blow”. You will have done a total
of 60/80 damage by turn two. The same outcome of using
Electrike’s [DX] “Recharge” first turn, then evolving to
Manectric [DX] and using “Magnetic Tackle”, only no
reflexive damage to Manectric.
-Use “Plasma” to get energy on Manectric,
then Surprise! Time Machine it into Manectric [DX] and
do lots of damage with “Magnetic Tackle”.
-Electrike could be nice tech card in a
Mew EX/Manectric EX (MewTric) deck, if you had some
reason to paralyze the defending Pokémon instead of
“Recharge”. Same goes for Manectric. You could use it on
your bench instead of Electrike to decrease chances of
being KOed on the bench.
Unlimited:
Watch out for FTKs by Hitmonchan. And I’m not just
talking about Electrike. Manectric too. Nothing really
special about this card. 1/5
Modified: I
think Electrike [DX] is better most of the time.
However, it all depends on your metagame. If you think
it is better to stop your opponent from using their
active Pokémon to set up first turn (with “Wishing
Star”, “Call for Family”, “Eeeeeek”, etc.) then go with
Electrike [HP]. 3/5
Limited: No
specific energy requirements for Electrike’s attack.
Yes, draft this. “Plasma” does not require any specific
type of energy either. 4.6/5
