Muk
LV.43 is a “fair” card. Toxic Sludge appears meant to
punish Grass players, but as Jermy101 points out in his
CotD, it would also nail Double Rainbow Energy
and Holon Castform users (and anything else that
has a Special Energy providing Grass). Sort-of
Auto-Poison at the end of each players turn is pretty
handy, but as a former Liability player, I know this
kind of thing is only “so-so”. It is probably just as
useful for shutting of some Poké-Powers as it is for the
damage that can accrue, and with only 80 HP and Psychic
Weakness, Muk isn’t apt to last long. It only
has one, three Energy attack. It is a good, big attack
for it (50 damage, Confusion, and the Defending Pokémon
can’t Retreat next turn), but the effort spent keeping
Muk alive and powering up probably would work
better elsewhere. Also, if the opponent doesn’t have
anything providing Grass Energy on their Active, the
combo really loses potency.
I will say that I am glad they made this card if only
because they combined Confusion with a “can’t retreat”
effect: Confusion lost a lot of its potency when TPC
altered the rules so that a player could have his
Confused Pokémon Retreat to the Bench to shed Confusion,
instead of having to flip for it like when the game
first began. Eliminating the Retreat option makes it a
good offensive/defensive option again.
