1 being the worst.  3 ... average.  5 is the highest rating.

UK Nationals Finalist 2007
Garchomp is heavily over hyped. Yes, a potent level X has been revealed via a japanese translation but I am not considering this in my review. This is due to mistakes that have occurred in the past such as Fossil Excavator - nets only one fossil, not three.

Rainbow scale would be good if not for the last line. Losing out on special energies is such a liability; reducing efficency and technical support. 110 misses a KO on quite a few bulky pokemon, plus the core 70 is not decent at all unless the opponent's development is hindered.

Considering the body can easily be shut off by Battle Frontier and Lati@s HP's dual aura, only the free retreat and decent HP save it for me. Being boost energy-able is not everything.

2.3/5

Garchomp Lv.66 MT

Hello, did you all have a good weekend? Today’s COTD is a favorite in the D&P video games. Being fast, powerful, and a dragon, makes this guy amazing. First thing you notice is the 130 HP, that is a big number. Only the biggest pokemon out there (Machamp, Torterra, Etc.) have this much HP. Second is the nice 70 damage for 3 ©, yes colorless energy to do a good amount of damage… Wow. Then his effect melts it all together into a giant beast of power and speed. Able to do 110 damage to any pokemon that has a weakness that isn’t colorless (That’s quite a few pokemon,) as long as you have the right energy, is nothing to scoff at.

Pros –
70 for 3 ©
Free retreat
130 HP
110 Damage if you have the right basic energy
Kind of splashable

Cons –
Need BASIC ENERGY for the poke-body to work
Only one attack that needs 3 energy

Unlimited – to slow 1/5

Modified – this card is as close to splashable as a card can get in pokemon 4.75/5

Limited – 70 damage for any three energy? Count me in 5/5

Wow… This is a card you might want to run more crystal shards because of,

Garchomp lv 66

Very good hp and retreat cost having zero retreat cost is quite a big bonus. 70 costing CCC is pretty mediocre for a stage 2 110 on the other hand is downright amazing. The big problem about this card is that you need a very serious build around it. Not being able to use special energy limits its use very much as youll probably need to find some other way to speed you energy attachment up . Next point is that youll need the exact right type of energy on garchomp. Energy seach effects is of course handy here but they are in other ways useless and might not be worth the spot.

Very interesting card indeed

Modified: This goes under “the I need to see a deck card” but it wont get less than 3 from me

Classic: 1

Modified 3

Tiberius Review for Garchomp Lv. 66
9/18/07

Well, this is my first time doing this so bear with me here.
So we have Garchomp, the Mach Pokemon-

130 HP
Pokebody Rainbow Scale: If an Active Pokemon has Weakness to any of the types of Energy attached to Garchomp, Garchomp's attacks do 40 more damage to that Pokemon (before applying Weakness and Resistance).
Rainbow Scale Poke-Body can't be used if Garchomp has any Special Energy cards attached to it.
(CCC) Dragon Fang (70)
Weakness to Colorless, +30
Resistance to absolutely nothing....
0 retreat cost

ok, so here we go!
Garchomp... personally, I think hes a beast. Dragon Fang by itself is a beast (3 for 70!?!?!) were they crazy when they made this??? and if that by itself wasn't enough, it has a nice pokepower... and lets see...
hmm.... adds EVEN MORE POWER???? so it makes dragon fang do 40 more if they have a weakness to it... so say you have garchomp with 3 waters on it, face infernape (come to think of it, its a lot of what you face, admit it..), haha, dragon fang, so its 110 damage without the weakness... but then it does 220 because hes 2x weak! amazing.... *faints*

130 HP is very solid, very solid, can't really talk about this...
weakness... is meh. its ok, could be the 2x we see on some of the Lv. X cards, but colorless... lets hope you get some fighting energy on this thing to make sure you beat it resistance... only part of this card that I don't like. and whats wrong with it... ummm... nothing thats the problem. it has no weakness...
ouch... but don't despair, theres more to come...

zero retreat cost... just plain awsome, words don't describe it well enough. retreat when you want, retreat anytime whatsoever... so cool...

Pros:
efficient attack
powerful pokepower
no retreat cost
pretty high hp

Cons:
no resistance
weakness... could be worse but... i hate weaknessess... :-(

Overall:
4.5/5

Tiberius, signing off
Jesse F. Garchomp is a card gathering a lot of hype lately, especially since there is the illusive Garchomp Lv.X coming out soon. It's rainbow scale attack is a very simple attack to use to do 70, and if you build a good enough deck around all the basic energies (in which you would possibly uses Energy Searches, Castaways, and Mr. Stone's Project) Garchomp can be used to it's greatest potential.

Limited - 4.5/5...if you can get a full line, you can throw it in ANY limited deck. Plus it's effect definately helps. 110 in limited usually means WIN.

Modified - 3.5/5...Until we see what it can do with Garchomp Lv.X this isn't all that good. There are easier ways to hit for over 110.

Unlimited - 1/5
