10/7 Buck's Training (LA)
So, the second day of trainer week, and we have a great
supporter today, Buck's Training. Now, if it wasn't for
the other effect, it would be as good as Mom's Kindness
in drawing only 2 cards. However, if it's next to your
active Pokémon, then your next attack does 10 more
damage. Now, that sounds fantastic, but you have to
remember a couple of things. first, it doesn't add
damage to attacks that place damage counters, and
secondly, it doesn't add damage to bench hitting
attacks. Still, if you don't care about either and thus
care more about hitting stuff hard with your beat down
deck, then this essentially adds 4 more Plus Powers to
your deck and 4 Mom's Kindness is just 4 slots. Not as
though getting 4 Mom's Kindness is a good thing, but
still, it's nice to draw those 2 cards in addition to
dealing extra damage.
Actually, that brings me to my only minor complaint
about the card. That is, you are going to be using it
for the extra damage, and thus cannot be used as a main
drawing supporter, so more spaces will have to be
dedicated to drawing cards. Admittedly, with Claydol
(GE) or Uxie (LA) in almost every deck, it's not such a
big deal. Also, to get the +10 damage at the right time,
you have to keep Buck's Training in your hand until the
right time. Admittedly, it's not that much of a
hindrance, but it's just that it takes up a a space in
your hand which, if you are using Claydol, could be
quite bad. Still, you should find a use for it quite
quickly really.
Ratings:
Modified: It's fantastic, it's unique, there has been no
other card in history that has the same sort of effect
(I think), and will almost always be useful. To get the
most out of it though, it will have to be timed well for
when you need the extra damage, and thus shouldn't
really be used as a main drawing card, but really, it
doesn't matter that much. However, the only major
downfall is that it can only be used effectively in beat
down decks, but that still isn't exactly a bad thing.
4/5
Limited: Drawing power (even if it is only the
equivalent of Mom's Kindness) is great here, but really,
the extra damage is the main attraction of the card,
allowing you to get more 1 or 2HKOs. However, don't
expect to get too many, but it's still great. 4.5/5 |
