Aloha people of the poke-palace of Pojo,
and welcome to a-whole-nother review. Today's card is
one you've probably seen played if you have
been......well, alive hahaha. It's the A-Z Elf, Azelf,
and he's all about willpower. Specifically, the power to
say "GIVE ME THAT LV.X IN MY PRIZES ARRRRGH!!! WHY DOES
THAT ALWAYS HAPPEN TO ME!?". So, let's get right into
this piece of Lake Trio!
Basic Pokemon: Azelf being a basic is
actually a very great blessing from the Poke-Gods. To
all you people that tech the one or two of these
guys, imagine if you had to evolve to get it's ability,
or had to LV. X it. It would be slow, and particularly
sucky. It reminds me of the old Holon Persian. If you
could have gotten the ability to search out any card in
your deck and put it in your hand by just playing the
Meowth, I think every deck would've run at least three
of that. But with the Evolution requirement, the
card was forgotten form competitive play. But, Azelf
does still have the downfall that all non-attacking
basics or energy hog basics have: the "I HAVE to start
with this" syndrome. With Azelf it hurts even more since
the ONLY way to get it's ability is by playing it from
the hand. Having to start with this, and then having the
only way to try and use it's power is a Super Scoop Up,
is a pretty bad drawback.
Time Walk: Quite simply, one of the best
Poke-Powers ever concieved. No other pokemon does what
Azelf does as fast as it does, or as efficiently. It is
one of the best early game cards ever, and can totally
turn a match from a desperate, throw everything ya got
and hope that's enough battle to a proficient killfest
you're opponent was lucky he got out of all right
smashfest. I know I'm being pretty dramatic here, but
all of this praise IS warranted. When you play that
first Roseanne's or Bebe's Search, and realize all your
Magmortar/Leafeon/Darkrai/Garchomp/Torterra/Any Lake
Trio LV. Xs or teched Milotic/Unown G/Mr. Mime/Mawile/Bastiodon/Mightyena/Groudon have
been prized, you'll be happy to know you can search out
your Azelf, and change the game. This ability will
probably NOT be as necessary as I'm making it sound here
every game, but their WILL be games where it is the life
saver. It's ahrd to search through prizes when the card
that GETS your prizes IS your prizes.
Lock Up: PHEW! Haha that was alot..this
attack..not so much. You'll rarely use it, even if you
play REAL psychic (not just multis). It CAN score an
early KO on a low hp or Psychic weak pokemon with some
Pluspowers or Lake Boundary. BUT not very likely. On
this card it doesn't have to be special, it can ride on
the coattails of Time Walk hahaha.
Weakness: Not really worth pointing out
you don't want it active anyway and if it is the HP
won't keep it alive past one turn against the T2 beasts.
Retreat Cost: Light and small. So good,
though still would rather Warp.
Combos: Well, it IS AMU, but this card
can be used successfully in ANYTHING. Use it in decks
with LV. X to find your evolutions reliably, use it in
decks with that third tech line or other teched Pokemon
to make SURE they appear when needed....use it in
Kricketune/Beedrill to get the fourth friggin
'Tot/'Drill in play haha. Basically, this card is one of
those pieces of utility where I would say the benefits
of having it far out weigh the risks.
Ratings:
Modified: 4.5/5 This card can fit into
ANY deck it has so many uses it would be 5/5 if you
didn't have to put another card into your prizes hahaha
Limited: 4.5/5 Still just as good as here
you won't have very thick evolutionary lines so you're
one Stage 2 could get prized or even an important basic
I figure if I don't put my email down
here on any review now, people will think I'm sick or
something haha. Send ALL positive remarks to
Summonerofillusions@yahoo.com, and send all hate
mail to yourself, ya jerks. |
