All Right! One of the Big Birds! Another great stage 2
SP to follow in the footsteps of Infernape, Luxray and
others right?
Wrong.
80 HP Basic, weak to lightning, resistant to fighting,
one retreat cost. Really, one retreat cost?
1 for 10, flip for 20…that wasn’t even good in the base
set standard of damage, and if you waste an energy gain
to get there, oh Nelly.
I hope there is a Level X to make this even a
discussable card…but at this point…
3 for 30 and a forced switch, and THEY get to pick the
new active??
In today’s game isn’t a 3 energy attack about 60 damage
and a cool effect?
Ratings…
Modified 1/5. This is a clunker. Unless there is a
really cool level X….stay away from the raptor.
Limited.2/5…Just giving it SOME benefit of the doubt, as
I believe Primeape will be a player…but still…pass if
possible.
CLUNK.

Staraptor FB
Hi and welcome to a new week of CotD!
This will be my last week of reviewing for a while as I
am off to the US to compete in the Pokémon World
Championships in San Diego. I wish all of my fellow
competitors good luck and hope everyone there has an
awesome time!
Today’s card is Staraptor FB from Supreme Victors –
coming to a prerelease near you soon! Now, to be honest,
the main reason for playing this card will be because it
has a very nice LV X whose Power lets you search out a
Supporter from your deck every turn, but as we are not
technically reviewing that card, let’s see what the
Basic Staraptor can do.
Well, it is an SP Pokémon, so it will benefit from the
usual SP Support. It has a solid 80 HP and a useful
Fighting Resistance, giving it some protection against
Toxicroak G Promo, Lucario GL, and Machamp (as long as
you attach an Unown G). Weakness to Lightning makes it
VERY vulnerable to Luxray GL and its LV X though, so
beware of having it dragged active with Bright Look and
OHKO’d. A retreat cost of one seems a bit harsh for a
bird Pokémon (the LV X retreats for free though).
Quick Attack is (as usual) pretty weak, giving you just
10-20 Damage for one Energy (or an Energy Gain).
Whirlwind is a bit more interesting as it does 30 Damage
and forces a switch of your opponent’s choice. The cost
of [C][C][C] is a bit much and although the attack could
be useful in some situations, loading that much Energy
on a Pokémon which is really only there so its LV X form
can sit on the Bench and use its Power probably isn’t a
very smart move.
So, Staraptor FB isn’t anything special or deck-worthy
by itself, but you can expect it to see some play as the
LV X might just make it worth running this weak vanilla
Basic.

Modified: 1.5 (You need it for the LV X, no other reason
to play it)
Limited: 2.25 (Colourless attacks are a bonus here)

Welcome back to the Pokemon COTD!
Today's card is one of the new cards from Supreme
Victors that has recently been revealed. I present to
you... Staraptor FB!
Let's look at the basics. 80 HP is standard on a Basic
SP Pokemon. It's Colorless, so it can get good hits on
Flygon (RR), in theory. A x2 Weakness to Lightning-types
is expected of a bird, so be careful around Luxray GL
and the like. A -20 Resistance is also expected, though
the only Fighting-types seeing any decent amount of play
right now is Machamp, which can simply Take Out for KO.
Still, it's usually better than no Resistance at all. A
Retreat Cost of 1 is also average, though I fail to see
why a bird needs one. It's an SP Pokemon, so it can
utilize all of the support that it has such as SP Radar
and all of that.
No Powers or Bodies, fortunately and unfortunately, but
there are two attacks, which are pretty lackluster as a
whole. The first, Quick Attack, does 10 damage for 1
energy of choice (or for absolutely free with Energy
Gain!). Flip a coin, and it does an extra 10 if you get
heads. A standard attack you would likely find on most
non-SP basics.
The second attack, Whirlwind, does a whopping -- no, I
should say, flopping -- 30 damage for 3 energies of
choice, 2 with Energy Gain. Afterwards, your opponent
switches the Pokemon you just damaged with another of
his/her Pokemon of their choosing. Whirlwind usually
doesn't tend to be a good attack, but for this guy to do
so little damage for so much energy? Yanmega 4 does more
damage than that, and nobody uses that in competitive
play.
Really, the only thing that Staraptor FB has going for
it is a LV. X. Before you get to it, though, you would
be desperate to attack with this, usually.
Ratings:
Modified: 1.5/5 I wouldn't play this card as an attacker
unless I had no other option besides Claydol. Wait until
the LV. X shows up where it can really be of use.
Limited: 2/5 A bit better here. Still, don't expect to
put any major dents in your opponent's Pokemon until you
level it up.
This is Steel_Winger, until next time!
