Welcome back to the Pokemon COTD!
Today we look at the third released card from Supreme
Victors, one that has garnered quite a bit of attention:
Blaziken FB LV. X.
Let's see what makes people talk about this card. 110 HP
is about average for an SP LV. X to have. It's
Fire-type, so it can really put a hurting on Shaymin
(PT) and company. A x2 Water Weakness means that Kingdra
(LA) can OHKO it with no problem. No Resistance to
anything is expected, and a Retreat Cost of one is
average. It's an SP Pokemon, so it can utilize the
support of SP Radar and the like.
Blaziken FB. LV. X has an interesting Poke-Body: Burning
Spirit, which adds an extra 40 damage done by attacks to
a Burned Pokemon. However, if two of these guys are in
play, the extra damage doesn't stack. Burns aren't as
promonent as poison is, but that just might change with
this guy.
In addition to whatever attacks its non-LV. X form may
have, Blaziken FB LV. X has an attack called Jet Shoot.
(Sounds more like a Water-type attack to me, but I
digress.) For 2 energies, one which must be Fire (or
just a lone Fire energy with Energy Gain), this attack
does 80 to the Defending Pokemon. That's a lot of power
for so little energy. There's got to be a catch... oh,
wait, here it is: Blaziken FB takes an extra 40 damage
from attacks on your opponent's next turn after this
attack is used. Hmm... Blaziken FB LV. X is basically
saying, "Think before you have me use this attack." And
you should. Provided you have a reliable way to KO a
Pokemon, You would want to keep the extra damage coming.
If this guy is on the ropes, simply retreat it, or if
you're worried about snipers, use Poke Turn.
So what can combo with this guy? The answer is obvious:
Blaziken (PT). It's Poke-Power allows you to burn the
opponent's Pokemon, therefore ensuring the extra damage.
Even if you can't KO the opponent's Pokemon with the
extra damage, there's still the chance they'll take burn
damage. And you can use Heatran LV. X to ensure that's
done.
Ratings:
Modified: 3.5/5 This guy can be a very good attacker
when used with caution. It can also serve a supporting
role while letting other attackers rack up the damage.
Limited: 4/5 If you pull this guy and its non-LV. X,
you're going to play it, more or less. Quite a few
Pokemon can be OHKOed by this guy here.
